Marsha... The Castle line is mine, also. Most know they came to the area from Russell County, Va and it is well documented (Although I wasn't the one who did the physical researches) that is where they came from before Johnson/Lawrence Counties. My group comes down through Adam & Rhoda and their daughter Phebe who married Lindsey Castle. The 1844 tax list of Johnson County (Probably the first one of newly formed Johnson County) showed Lindsey owned 50 acres on Toms Creek and then the 1850 census shows him living in Lawrence County. Toms Creek covers a lot of territory in Johnson County and empties into the Big Sandy River near River, Johnson County, KY. My guess is he lived closer to where US 23 is today near Lawrence County line and close to George's Creek around Lowmansville but I don't know for sure. There were a lot of Castles (and still are) in this area. You have a great idea and I will check my records at home to see what I have. I am going from memory here at work. ----- Original Message ----- From: "marsha moses" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 13, 2008 8:50 AM Subject: [EASTERNKENTUCKY] North Carolina to Eastern Kentucky in the late1700's and early 1800's >I have a favor to ask of this list.
