    1. Re: [EASTERNKENTUCKY] Dr. James Douglas Adams obit-Floyd Co., KY-Mother was an Osborn
    2. Rhonda Houston
    3. As a thought to those who might be related to Dr. James Douglas, if one was wanting genealogical information about him and his immediately family that isn't known, one can contact Eastern Kentucky University's medical library and speak directly with the medical librarian for this information. Within every medical library, there is this 'special gate keeper' of this information which is free and open to the public, but has to be requested from the medical librarian. Once contact is made, be sure to remember the librarian's name out of courtesy because he/she will be doing this work for you and although it's free, to know where to get this information is awesome and any information is always precious. I'd like to add, that if any of you have a lawyer ancestor, who you know has practiced within any state in the Union, within that state, at the state level, there will be a law library where this same genealogical information about your lawyer ancestor is available, also free for the asking, from the state where this lawyer practiced at the state level. JAMES DOUGLAS, 72, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008. He was born on January 14, 1936, the son of the late Hazel Ruth Osborn Adams and Jerry David Adams. Dr. Adams graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1956 where he majored in both biology and chemistry. He continued his education at the University of Louisville, where he received his Doctorate of Medicine in 1960. He retuned to his native Floyd County where he began a family practice in Prestonsburg. After 43 dedicated years he retired from his practice in December 2004. 1. Re: [EASTERNKENTUCKY] Parentage of Nathanial C. "Matt" Adams
    2. Tim Wallace
    3. Dear Rhonda, Thank you so much for your response. Here is what I know: 1) Nathaniel "Matt" Adams was born 25 Dec 1863 in Menifee or Morgan County, Kentucky. (From Nathaniel's marriage return). 2) Nathaniel may have a brother named James W. Adams, born about Mar 1865 in Kentucky. (That these two brother married the two sisters is a family story. The marriage records suggest it could be true, but don't prove it. Of course, it could be completely incorrect). 3) Nathaniel Adams married Mary C. Manning 20 Nov 1884 in Morgan County, Kentucky. (Marriage return) 4) James Adams married Marena L. Manning 20 Nov 1884 in Morgan County, Kentucky. (Marriage return. Same day/place/preacher as #3 above) 5) Marena and Mary C. Mannin were sisters. (As identified in the 1870 Grassy, Morgan, Kentucky census) 6) 1870 Census, Frenchburg, Menifee, Kentucky, there is a Nathaniel Adams living in the James Adams and Jane Burch household. (But no brother James) 7) 1860 Census, Morgan, Dist 1, there is a James W. living in the Lewis C. and Deborah Adams household. They lived fairly close to the Mannins. (But no brother Nathaniel) 8) I've been unable to locate the 1870 Census for Lewis and Deborah. If Nathaniel and James were indeed brothers, they should be living in the same household in 1870. Maybe as a next step I can check probate records for James/Jane and Lewis/Deborah to see if they shed any light? Happy Thanksgiving!
