Chester “Fox” DeHart, age 87, of Orchard Avenue, Olive Hill, Ky., went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 9, 2008, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born July 1, 1921, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late John Vernon and Addie Sparks DeHart. Chester was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Olive Hill. He was owner and operator of the DeHart Barber Shop for 58 years, a retired 26-year employee of the Harbison-Walker Brickyard, a 53-year member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629, and the Scottish Rites and was also a member of the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland. He served his country during World War II with the United States Navy and was a survivor of the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest DeHart; and two sisters, Marie McDowell and Bernice Huntsman. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Sue Barker DeHart; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Debbie DeHart of Olive Hill; and one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Amy and Wayne Russell of Olive Hill. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn his passing. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Olive Hill with Brother Mark Lilly and Brother Mike Blankenship officiating. Barbara Sue Smith, age 65, of Catlettsburg, passed away Dec. 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 19, 1943, in Pike County, Ky., a daughter of Ida Williamson of Flatwoods and the late Captain Walker Gilliam. In addition, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Gilliam and George Gilliam. She was a homemaker, a member of Ladies Auxiliary, VFW, Eagles and American Legion and was a Kentucky colonel. Additional survivors include her husband to whom she was married 48 years, James Rueben Smith; three sons, Jim Smith, Tim Smith and Chris Smith, all of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Captain Gilliam Jr. of Pike County, Larry Gilliam of Flatwoods, Ky., and Carl Williamson Jr. of Covington, Ky.; two sisters, Kathie Gilliam and Shelby Reynolds, both of Flatwoods; and grandchildren, Brock Smith, Nicci Smith, Sam Smith, and Jake Smith, all of Lexington. Frieda's family will always remember her talent for cooking and baking. In 1946 Bill was saved and born again, being baptized and joining the Licking Valley United Baptist Church in Saylersville-Ben Branch, KY.! Bill retired from Frigidare Division of General Motors with 31 years of service. Bill visited the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church where Brother Frank Kelly pastors and his children attend. Funeral services will be Saturday December 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, St. Rt. 725 at Gillen Lane in Miamisburg with Rev. Frank Kelly officiating. ALLEN, George Burton 16 April 1923-9 December 2008. George was a WWII US Army Veteran assigned to the 9th Division, 39th Infantry and participated in the Normandy, N. France, and Rhineland Campaigns. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Three Bronze Campaign Stars, a Purple Heart, and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. After return to civilian life he was elected and served as Breathitt County Clerk of Courts, Jackson, KY. He attended the Louisville School of Barbers and was licensed and barbered in Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan, and Idaho. George also retired with over 25 years of Civil Service from WPAFB. During his tenure, he received several commendations and monetary awards. George was raised in the Christian Church and was associated with the Church of God. Being a self-taught guitarist he shared his musical talent with several local churches and nursing homes. George was also a Charter Member of the Huber Heights VFW Post 3283, serving as! Vice Commander and Service Officer. In addition, he was a lifetime member of the DAV and the American Legion Post in Fairborn, Ohio. George had many interests in life and especially enjoyed traveling the USA, writing poetry, playing music, woodworking, and studying his Bible. He peacefully left our lives to enter into the next life where he is welcomed by his infant daughter, Georgia Mae Allen (B. 4 Nov. 1951-D. 6 Nov. 1951); daughter, Alice Alene Allen (B. 4 July 1949-D. 3 Dec. 1954); his brother, Charles L. Allen; and his parents, Grover Cleveland and Mary D. (Whitenack) Allen. George is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia; 2 devoted nieces, Charlotte Helen Davis and husband Bruce of Beattyville, KY and Donna Ann Spencer and husband Jimmy (Roy) of Nashville, TN; 2 sisters, Helen Deaton of Hamilton, OH, and Mary C.
