HYDEN - Roscoe Day, born March 1, 1915 departed this life on Dec 23, 2008 at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 23 days old. He was born at Cutshin, KY the son of the late William H. Day and the late Mallie Maggard Coots. Roscoe was a retired coal miner having been employed by the Blue Diamond Coal Co, Leatherwood, KY. He had over 29 years of service in the mining industry. Roscoe was a member of the United Mine Workers and Southern Labor Union. He had also served in the three C's camp during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and pick-up trucks as hobbies. Roscoe was affiliated with the Church of Christ and had been a life-long resident of Leslie County, KY, living at 6194 Cutshin Rd, Smilax, KY, at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents: William Day and Mallie Coots, one son-in-law: Don Wax and a host of treasured brothers and sisters. LYKINS, Gayle Ann 58, of Lebanon and formerly of Morrow passed peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Hospice of Cincinnati. Born January 21, 1950 the daughter of Eddie and Marie (Hillard) Lykins, Gayle was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all that came into her life. A 1968 graduate of Little Miami High School, she received her RN degree from Kettering College of Medical Arts and had worked fro many years at Pine Crest Nursing center in Morrow, Bethesda North Hospital and had recently been employed at Hospitality East Nursing Ctr. In Xenia and was a member of the Lebanon Eagles. YATES Violet Mae Yates, age 99, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Violet was born on the family farm in Fulton, Ohio on April 16, 1909 the daughter of Jessie L. (Alexander) and William Perkins. She grew up on the farm and attended school in Fulton. During WWII, Violet worked for Curtiss-Wright. She worked as a cashier at the A&P Grocery Store, retiring after 23 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore A. Yates, her children Patricia Vollmuth and Thomas McDonald. Darin (Patty)Fairchild of West Liberty and Derrick (Terri) Fairchild of Vale, NC; two daughters, Dana (Joe) Smith of Urbana and Nikki (Mark Marsilis) Fairchild of Woodstock; two brothers, John (Peggy) Fairchild and Steve (Deb) Fairchild, both of West Liberty; one sister, Linda (John) Clark of West Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Codey and Cameron Smith, Misty Kielman, Laurie Woods, Dustin and TJ Fairchild, Brittney, Jessica, and Charlie Fairchild, and Timmy Marsalis; and six great grandchildren. GRIFFEY, RAYMOND G., was born May 18, 1927 in Olive Hill, KY and died on Thursday, December 18, 2008. Raymond served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He began his Army career in 1947 and is a retired Korean War veteran. He managed several Holiday Inns in Louisville and moved and settled in Cincinnati and worked as a manager of Clovernook County Club from 1982 until his retirement in 1996. Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice (Phillips) Griffey; his daughters, Deborah Semenick-Carboy and Susan Zehnder, of Louisville; and three grandsons, Max Semenick and Christian and Austin Zehnder. WAGERS, Stanley T. 88, of Middletown, died Friday, December 19, 2008, at Garden Manor Retirement Village. He was born in Irvine, Kentucky on October 10, 1920 to parents Beverly T. and Bessie (Ball) Wagers. Mr. Wagers served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3809, a Kentucky Colonel, woodworker and bass fisherman. He worked as a pattern maker for General Motors. He also worked as a watch maker and repairman for Rogers Jewelers. Mr. Wagers is survived by his wife, Cyrena (Guido) Wagers; six children, Susan A. (Gary) Grimm, Toni L. Johnson, Tina M. (Herbert) Calem, Thomas A. Wagers, Traci A. (Michael) Dick and Tammi E. (Allan) Morgan, niece, Carolyn Gould; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ivory Brewer; an infant sister, Nina Ruth; and daughter-in-law, Beverly S. Wagers.
