In Apr. 1836 he joined Capt. Hooper's company from Shelby Co. A note said on rolls as 2nd lt. in Hooper's company from San Augustine from Jul. 1836. He received a bounty warrant. James H. Thomas and King (X) Latham, Panola Co., affirmed service. A. W. DeBerry, in Austin, said that he had known the applicant for 20 years (Sep. 1874) and up till the time of his death. W. M. McCord and N. D. (X) Coborn, Rains Co., said that the applicant died in Van Zandt Co. on 4 Dec. 1873. King (X) Latham and Zacariah T. Bell, Panola Co., named the surviving children (all of Panola Co.) as follows: James H. Ritter, Everett S. Ritter, B. F. Ritter, Mary F. Brunch, and Susan C. Sessom. The applicant left no widow. Martha Jane Ritter Latham was named as a daughter who died about 1866 and left a daughter, S. Jane Latham Manley. The applicant had another daughter Elizabeth A. Ritter Golden who died about 1866 and left the following children: Rebecca Golden, Susan J. Golden (wife of B. A. Nail), Sarah A. Golden (minor), and George Golden (minor). They also named William A. Ritter as a son who died in 1864 and who left the following children: Sarah Ann Ritter Tidwell (wife of Joseph Tidwell), Franklin Ritter (minor), William Ritter (minor), and Elmira Ritter (minor). B. F. Ritter was guardian of the following minors: Franklin Ritter, Elmira Ritter, Wm. Ritter, Sarah A. Golden, and George Golden. My direct line from Everett S. Ritter is William A. Ritter.
