Sherry, So good to hear from someone who really knows where East Texas is located. Speaking for myself, this old gal lived in Henderson, Tx all my life and was taught early on where East Texas was. Like you, most everyone in our area called East TX anyplace in between Livingston to the south and Longview to the north and Palestine to the west. And believe me, the East Texas accent is real. I can't tell you how many times I've been visiting in the Western states and had people come up to me and TELL me that I was from East Texas. When asked how they knew, they always said they could tell by my accent! And to this day, I wouldn't change a "thang." The pine sap still runs in my vein to this day and some day I'll tell Houston goodbye and finally go back home.
