From..Sammy Lee I can't begin to tell all of you how much I have enjoyed the comments about the East Texas county issue. I wrote Sharon Church (the one who started this mess) a little note the other day and I think she is enjoying it too. Note: Yes Sammy, I am thoroughly enjoying the responses received on the East Texas issue. It is off subject and I am sorry about that, however it's been fun. from...Karen Kerr snip: There are foods in East Texas that can hardly be found anywhere else. Cream peas and lady peas, elephant heart plums, cershaw squash, salmon croquettes with maple syrup, the worlds best figs, yellow meat watermelons, mayhaw berries, and water so soft that you hardly even need any soap. Last, but not least, the people are as friendly as any in the world. A lot of what I love about North East Texas is disappearing as it becomes more metropolitan. It is comforting each time I visit and find that much of it still exists. Note: Karen this is a very sweet response. I have never know anyone else who knew about salmon croquettes with syrup. I always get laughed at when I eat them like that. However, we were poor folk so we had mackerel instead of salmon. From..LGut800427@aol.com snip: My grandpa's knee was my haven of safety as the big ole moon rose over the state line and he always said that it had just come from Paris. I heard of the pines in the far east, and the scissor tailed birds in Ok, Note: Your response painted such a pretty picture! I am homesick now. From...Sallie Cannon There just has to be a North-East and a South-East Texas. Reason I know this is, I live near Beaumont, TX, and I have to travel North, to get to East-Texas. Note: Makes sense to me. I live near Ft. Worth and I travel north to Texarkana. I have been here almost 16 years now, and still call East Texas my home. from...Rebecca everyone waves at everyone,or nods their head, or speaks as you pass them by where he lives now. "Down here", unless you actually know the person, your lucky to even see their eyes. Note: Crime is so prevalent, that people don't dare look at other people when they are walking on the streets, in fear of someone taking it as an invitation. At least, that is why I don't. Call me paranoid. ------------------ Well, folks, I have enjoyed this interchange about East Texas. Let's get back to genealogy, before we get taken off the list!! Sharon Church
