Christine-- My cousin has a Masters line & I am working with her on it. So far all she has is Sarah J. MASTERS who m. 1840 Jackson Co., MO to John FINLEY/FINDLEY. There was another MASTERS girl who m. a possible bro/o John but no proof. John FINLEY was b. 1810 in TN (Co. unk.). He was a son of Edmond FINLEY who had previously lived in Mercer & Garrard Co.'s KY. After their marriage, they moved to AR for a while (Co. unk.), the before 1850 to Hopkins Co., TX, by 1860 they are in Hunt Co., TX. They separated c1854 & he remarried to his cousin Elizabeth FINDLEY. Both families came to CA on the same wagon train in 1857, first settling in Los Angeles Co., at Ft. Tejon (now in Kern Co.). Later they moved to Drumm Valley in Tulare Co. Hanford that you mention is probably only 30 miles distant from where the FINLEY's lived. Sarah MASTERS FINELY d. about 1886. That's about all I know. I am hoping that in your collection you might have knowledge of Sarah, or of MASTERS in those area--especially Jackson Co., MO. I believe they had the following children: 1) R.L MASTERS,b. approx 1855, d. 1910, Dallas on a trip. Buried in Sulpher Springs, TX 2)Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth MASTERS FLOWERS, b.1858 in MISS, d. 1937, Sulpher Springs TX. Sallie married Daniel Harmon FLOWERS, (He was named in a newspaper headline as "Uncle Dan" to the community of Sulpher Springs, TX.) They had three daughters: Gertrude, b. 1885, Mattie m. Albert COLEMAN, Sulpher Springs, TX and Jessie Kate m. Claude SCRUGGS, Sulpher Springs, TX. Gertrude married Eugene Herbert Cassidy, Sr. b. 1889 Windom, TX. They had two children (twins): Eugene Herbert Cassidy, Jr. & Elizabeth Cassidy. Both born in 1925, Hanford, CA. Eugene died in 1986. He had one child, Christine Cassidy Schutz, b. 1950. (This is my line and I am Christine) 3)Will Masters - of Abilene at some point. 4)Dick Masters - of San Antonio at some point. 5)Jim Masters - of Cotulla and Sabinal at some point. 6)Tom Masters - of Roff, Indian Territory - OK, and Falfurrias, TX at some point. 7)John Masters, J.R., (Poss the oldest) b. 1854, d. 1906 TX 8)Samual Isiah Masters, Sam, b. 1862, d. 1945 TX, m. Emma Smith b. 1868, d. 1940 TX 9)Mrs. F.E. Bromley, of Sulpher Springs, TX (Would love to know her first name.) Two more children remain unidentified per news article of Marthas death in 1934. She had outlived 6 of her 11 children. There was also mention in one of the obits of a possible sister of William in Lakewood, Alabama at the time of his death. Two of William and Marthas children, Tom and Dick Masters were mentioned in family obits during the 20's as if the town should be vary familiar with them. Would appreciate hearing from anyone regarding any branch of this family. Have been piecing them together for a long time with the very kind help of the Hopkins County Genealogy Society in Sulpher Springs. Happy to share other information.
