Jane I will need to obtain geographic information in order to more effectively understand the data, get a better idea of overall migration patterns, and a general feel for the vicinity where the individuals lived. Online maps such as those at MapQuest (http://www.mapquest.com) and Ancestry.com's free map collection (http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/maps.asp) are excellent, but I also prefer to have paper atlases--if for no other reason than the index. I usually buy print maps for specific areas where I need a high level of detail. The Ancestry Online Store has a selection of maps, atlases, and gazetteers for purchase at http://shop.ancestry.com/ancestry/mapsatlases.html. Online maps are excellent for modern areas and for determining some historical background and former borders.
