It is difficult for me to beleive tht anyone with east Texas roots has no familiarity with the Cajuns who live next door. That would be like people living in San Antonio and Bexar Co. not understanding what fiesta, the Alamo, pinatas, enchilladas, picante,or mariachis were. I am sure that our ancestors did not have computers that kept them indoors and isolated from their neighbors.Even if they did, the Coon Asses did not have them and would have knocked on their doors and invited them to a soiree or offered them some gumbo. Our crawfish, poke salad, mahaw berries and alligators did not recognize state lines back in those days like they do now.If your ancestors lived in east Texas they knew a few Cajuns personally.Mine married them. You can tell because we know how to laugh and our knees start swishing whenever we hear zydeco.
