Can anyone tell me what the term "bonus money" in a tax record would mean? In looking at Hopkins Co Tax Rolls 1846-1882, I found this entry for my gg-grandfather: "Acres --, Horses (2) $230, BONUS MONEY $15, Miscellaneous $80" Did he have to pay taxes on bonus money (or was he given a bonus because he had so little???)
