The arched gateway with the BUMSTEAD name is gone from the Bumstead Cemetary in Fletcher. Does anyone know where it went? Also, who is the caretaker for it? George Mitchell, son of Morad Bumstead, used to care for it, but he died in 1984 and I'd like to know who is in charge of its care now. George and my grandmother, Jessie (Wiess) Whittington, and some others got together the money to buy back the land the cemetary is on from whoever got custody of it many years ago, but they are all gone now, and I'd like to know the ownership of it and (like I said) how it's cared for. Does anyone know more about the details of who was in the group that bought it, who they bought it from, why, etc?? If anyone is in that area (Lumberton/Fletcher) and could research the deed records, I'd appreciate it. Also, what are the rules concerning private cemetaries?
