I am very interested in the 1915 Cookbook of Pittsburg,do you have the first name of Hopkins? I have grandparents and Greatgrandparents from Pittsburg, please keep posting names from the cookbook.
I am working the Knight family lines out of the above counties. If anyone on the mail list can assist me, it will be greatly appreciated. I would guess they were in these counties from mid 1870's until probably the present. Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone. Thelma Knight Shields shields@eufaula.lib.ok.us
In a message dated 12/18/99 12:20:40 PM Central Standard Time, Betty writes: << There is a microfilm of the voter records. The records also include for each person the number of years in Texas plus the number of years in the county. >> My question: Is this only for Henderson County or are there microfilmed records for many other East Texas counties? Sounds like a great resource to check. love joan
Seeking information on the following family members who were in or around Shelby County in the late 1800s. Martha Ann HALL first married a Webb and then James FORSYTH. Martha's father died when she was very young and left her some land in Shelby County (near Sardis Community). Martha left the land to two or three children, one being William, my great grandfather. He married Addie Belle DAVIS.They sold it for a wagon and a mule sometime around the turn of the century and moved to Lufkin to be near Martha's son from first marriage (Johnny Webb I believe). They later returned to Shelby County, where my grandmother, Elva Oleen Forsyth Oliver was born 1910. Addie DAVIS was the daughter of John Isaac Davis and Martha Cogswell Davis. John was born in Montgomery, AL. Martha was a descendant of the famous Cogswells of New England (of which I have a pretty good charting of her ancestry). John's parents were S.A. Davis and N. Crenshaw. If anyone has information on any of these families, please email me. Stephanie Armstrong LaydeWlf@aol.com
Hi Karen, I made a reply to your post regarding your ancestor, Robert F. Campbell, but it bounced back. I hope you get this message. I too have an ancestor who was mayor of El Paso. Your Robert F. Campbell was elected on April 9, 1895. He was the last "admitted" Republican mayors in the city's history. p. 125 El Paso Chronicles by Leon Metz. He served from 1895 to 1897. My ancestor Charles Edgar "Henry" Kelly served from 1910 to 1915. Sally
Merry Christmas All, Each year some researchers and I save a special genealogical "find" to send to each other as Christmas presents. This arrived in my mail today. In the 1980's (or earlier?) the East Texas Genealogical Society published a List of Registered Voters (White) of Henderson County in 1867. The information was reprinted from the Index to Marks and Brands Book, Henderson County, Texas. The name of the registered voter and place of birth is shown. Bits of other genealogical material is included on some voters. Some of you may know the following information, but I did not. There is a microfilm of the voter records. The records also include for each person the number of years in Texas plus the number of years in the county. This information was not printed in the Quarterly. My photocopies of this record were made in the Dallas Library. I learned mine was three years too late to have been a citizen of the Republic of Texas. I hope this information may be helpful to some of you, and Happy Holidays to all. Betty

Hi-- Can anyone tell me about Mt. Zion, TX & the Harmony Presbyterian Church. I believe they be in Hopkins or Hunt counties. ---------------- MOUNT ZION, TEXAS (Hopkins County). Mount Zion, a rural community on State Highway 11 fifteen miles northwest of Sulphur Springs in northwestern Hopkins County, was settled before 1898, when it had two schools, one with fifty-six white students and one with nineteen black. During the mid-1930s Mount Zion had a school, a cemetery, three churches, and a number of scattered houses. After World War IIqv most of its residents moved away. The schools were consolidated with the Cumby school district, and by the early 1960s all that remained of the community was a church and a cemetery. During the late 1980s Mount Zion was a dispersed rural community. - -------------------------------------------------------- The Handbook of Texas Online is a joint project of The General Libraries at the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas State Historical Association. © The Texas State Historical Association, 1997,1998,1999. Good Morning Everyone, I agree with Pam, I will NOT open an attachment unless I know who sent it and I was warned before hand to expect it. Even then it goes through my virus program just to make sure it is virus free. Otherwise all attachments are deleted as soon as they show up in my message box. There are too many weird individuals in cyberland who get their jollies from messing up someone's computer. It is difficult to comprehend why they do this other than the fact it may give them a feeling of achieving something. In my viewpoint they are mentally ill and need a head shrinker. Keep Looking UP. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Pierce [mailto:twp@rootsweb.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 1999 11:42 PM To: listowners-announce@rootsweb.com Subject: Recent Virus Reports Hi, folks - We've had a lot of reports tonight about a virus being passed around on RootsWeb lists. I have looked into these reports and it does NOT appear that the viruses have actually been sent through our lists. I've included a semi-technical explanation of what I have been able to find out, for those of you who are curious. The only important message here is that RootsWeb's lists are NOT the source of recent virus reports. What seems to be happening is that the current flock of viruses do the following things when they infect a new computer: * The virus sends a copy of itself to everyone in the computer's address book; * It forges its own return address to look like it was sent by someone *else* in the address book; * and it uses the Subject line from a message that was recently sent from that machine. So if an infected person sent mail to BUMBLEROTTER-L@rootsweb.com, the virus might send out mail like this to someone else in the victim's address book: From: BUMBLEROTTER-L@rootsweb.com To: joe@example.com Subject: [BUMBLEROTTER] looking for Fred and Wilma Bumblerotter <http://stuart.messagemates.com/index.html>http://stuart.messagemates.com/in dex.html Hypercool Happy New Year 2000 funny programs and animations... We attached our recent animation from this site in our mail ! Check it out ! Even though the mail never was sent to RootsWeb, the return address is forged to make it appear as if it came from us. I will continue to work on figuring out if there is anything that we can do about this; in the meantime, please assure any concerned subscribers that subscribing to a RootsWeb list is not dangerous. :-) -- Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb.com lead system admonsterator and Chief Hacking Officer
Dear East-Texas-Rooters, Some of us have received some suspicious attachments supposedly from East-Texas-Roots. Ordinarily, Rootsweb does NOT send any attachments. Right now, it is ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT NOT TO OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS WHATSOEVER even if it means you do not receive the digest until we can get this straightened out. I will keep you posted. Please direct any questions or concerns to me at webpsalms@iname.com. Thanks very much. Sincerely, Pam Phillips Listowner: East-Texas-Roots-L Email: webpsalms@iname.com
I keep getting this same message with a different attachment addressed from the East Texas Roots List everytime someone sends a post to the list. It is a URL with the words " open the attachment because your browser can't read html", I did NOT open them but why am I getting them eveytime someone sends a post to the list??? One says Party.EXE and the other said Panthr.EXE, I do NOT open attachments but I would still like to know why I am receiving them when someone posts and the return address is EastTexasRoots@rootsweb.com I would appreciate it if you could put an end to them please. Brenda et al, I received three of these within an hour last night that looked like they were from different people. I thought they were well wishes as I'll be unsubscribing from the list later today for surgery tomorrow. One of them looked like it came from my Armstrong list as well. I accidently opened on and as soon as I did I closed it and ran and update for Norton Antivirus and then ran the Norton Antivirus program and it did't look like it caught anything so I'm hoping my system is ok?
