    3. Dear Texas List, Does any body, like the list manager, have an idea on what to do to help stop this action? I've never reached a live body at rootsweb yet. In the meantime some importain Spencer info has been lost to searcher's. I don't know what she means, I havn't sent 50 message in the last three days. If someone knows the list manager please FWD this to them. If it had of happen to me, I'd just fwd messages on until it was corrected. I wouldn't screamed at people who didn't make the mistake, and was doing good works. They were a very large family so it is possible my Spencer line went to Il and and others of the same family went elswhere. 3. Good Morning Sherry and All East Texas List. I am really confused about all this East -- West-- NorthEast-- SouthEast Texas Parts. The way I think of where Texas is---from being in Wichita,Ks.--- It's that Great Big Area South of Indian Terr. on I-35. I found out you can drive days to get across it and you better take 2 launches before you go anywhere. It ever a state should be called "the big sky" it should of been Texas. I do know where the Red River Area along north Texas border is. Went to Bonham (Fannin County)2 months ago. What a lovely Place and ever one so very nice, loved the way the lady's talked there. Now would that of been Way South--South--South--North- East Texas to Me? Please Answer whether I'm right or not, as I'm very worried that I may be Wrong,<G>. Carl in Wichita Well, Like some I wasn't going to get involved but I just couldn't help myself because my husband and I graduated from a High School in Nacogdoches Co.,(East Texas) and our children were born in Nacogdoches Co. I agree with Tom as to the boundaries of East Texas. We are now in Pasadena Texas (Stinkadena). We are trying our best to get back to "God's country." The air is so fresh and clean there. Amazing. My husband also says, "you can take the boy out of the country but not the country out of the boy;" We are proud to be from East Texas and will be back there one day. 2. East Texas Folks, I was born in the East Texas Ghost town of Emporia. (Figure out where that is.) Love East Texas and the friendly people and plan to return when I retire. Cannot wait to get away from this stinking big city. Doing research on the Carnley Family in East Texas. Most of the Family lived in Shelby, Nacogdoches, Angelina, Polk and Tyler Counties. Any information appreciated. Will share any information I have. East Texas Roots is a good list, gets away from Genealogy sometime, but still a good list. Always get a response when I post something. 3. Having lived below Corpus Christie, TX, anything south of Houston (with all of the counties it occupies) was always referred to as the Coastal Bend Region, and when one drives far enough south into the Coastal Bend Region, one lives in the famous Salt Flats. Interesting, this business of dividing up the state ... by regions. 3. I tend to agree with Gloria also about the Piney Woods for EAST TEXAS. But since researching my ancestors in EAST TEXAS, they were in Panola, Rusk, Johnson, Hood, Houston, Bosque, Coryell, Navaro, Ellis, Cooke and Young. Then they moved west to Childress where they finally settled. I have always tended to identify Texas by it geographical areas, High Plains and the Cap Rock, Piney Woods, the Gulf and of course West Texas (El Paso). I am from Childress and have worked all over the Panhandle, went to college in both Wichita Falls and Canyon (when WTSU had a football team!) My Jones family is well documented in the FWGS writings and they were all in East Texas. So I tend to believe than any "tag" is relative when discussing Texas. In the larger picture of genealogical research East Texas to me is anything east of Childress! 3. If I will not be the one who gets into trouble for not talking genealogy here, I have to relate my experience from moving from the Pineywoods of east Texas to the short grass prairies of the High Plains of west Texas as a result of being stationed in eastern New Mexico in the Service. As a relative youngster back then, I had never been out of eastern Texas for long. After receiving orders to report to my first duty station, I distinctly recall driving west into Abilene at night. I was extremely tired and thought that I had better stay in Abilene before I drove on. "Ah, some lights ahead! Abilene couldn't be over 5 or 6 miles ahead!" Fifty miles and an hour later, I arrived in Abilene, dog-tired and astounded that one could see city lights at such a distance! For a year after I arrived on the High Plains, whenever driving at night, I imagined that I could see dark trees overhanging the road. I would quickly realize that the trees were nonexistent when I would see some distant farm house light shining miles off on the side. Going from the closed tree-covered environment of east Texas to the open prairies, I actually experienced what I would call the inverse of claustrophobia. Now when I go home to east Texas, I feel closed in! (Note that I still call it home!) I have always said; had the Europeans lived on the High Plains when they were formulating their astronomical theories, the flat Earth theory would still be viable! : ) Not living in Texas for the past few years has made me realize that all parts of Texas are special, as are the friendly people who live there. Speaking for myself, this old gal lived in Henderson, Tx all my life and was taught early on where East Texas was. Like you, most everyone in our area called East TX anyplace in between Livingston to the south and Longview to the north and Palestine to the west. And believe me, the East Texas accent is real. I can't tell you how many times I've been visiting in the Western states and had people come up to me and TELL me that I was from East Texas. His second wife was Mary (Unknown last name) born abt 1842 or 4 in TX and died aft 1880 probably in Shelby or Sabine Cos.
