    1. Thomas WAlker b1792 AL?>LA> East TX (m. Charlotte Dial)
    2. Hi, gang, This is our "other" line of Walkers, and I am stumped. Thomas Walker,Sr. m. Charlotte Dial b. 1804 LA, dau of Abner Dial. On various census he gives a slightly varying age, and place of birth as AL, SC or NC. Supposedly he ran away from home at the age of 7, living and traveling with the Choctaw in AL, AK, and LA area for 10 years. Abt 1825 marries Charlotte. they have some kids on LA census 1840. Moved to TX had more kids. Thier children were 1)Mathinson, b. 1829 LA 2)Sarah, b. abt 1834, m. a Butler who was murdered soon after they were married 3)Amos b. 1835 LA m. Matilda "Puss" WAlker, dau of Louis Dial and Harriet Sweat Dial. 4)Emily, b. abt 1838 LA 5)Abner, d. 1862 Galveston, disease during Civil War 6)Elizabeth, b. abt 1842 7)Jasper, d. 1864 Tyler, Smith Co. TX of disease during Civil War 8)Samantha, 9)Mary 10)Andrew Jackson, b. 1844 Tyler Co d. 1923 Trinity Co m. Azalene Dail dau of Louis and Hariet Sweat Dial. AJ spent 30 years on prison for a murder he claimed to be innocent of, and wrote a book about it. "the Life and Times of A.J. Walker, an innocent Convict" 11)Thomas Jr. b. 1831 La m. Nancy Martha Biggs (1841-1884) their children: Thomas III, Harvey, Ellen, Nora Jane. Nora Jane m. James Andrew King, in another post re: Moses King.Thomas Jr. m a second time to Delalia and had children: Sarah Ann, Lillie b. abt 1882, J.N. and J.W. It wasn't known if Thomas Sr. ever went back to his family, but AJ Walker and Azalene Dial were married in Trinity Co. at the home of Atwood Dean and Elizabeth "Babe" Walker Dean (AJ's cousin). In order for AJ to have a cousin, Thomas Sr. must have had some other family around. The story goes that Thomas Sr's father (thought to be Thomas also) was a very early settler of AL. This family of Walkers was known to be in Tyler, Harris, Brazoria, Limestone, Galveston and Trinity Counties mid 1800s to 1900. Any cousins out there? The story goes that Thomas father (thought to be Thomas also) was a very early settler of AL. thanks, Sandy

    1. Jennet Walker Goff (dau of Peter Walker), TN>AK>LA>Polk Co.TX
    2. Hi group, I got so many responses to my note on the lost EM, thought I'd enter my updated WAlker info and post it: Jannett/Jennett WAlker, dau of Peter Walker and Barbara Ferguson Walker, b in TN abt. 1800, m. Andrew Jaries Goff, and had children Jesse b. 1821 Van Buren Co. AK, Sarah b. abt 1835 LA, and Barbary b. 1842 LA. Jesse m. Eliza WAde m.? Sarah m. James C. King in Polk Co., TX Barbary m. John King and Robert King, in Walker Co., Tx (are these related to James C.s family?) James C. and Sarah's son James Andrew married into a Nora Jane Walker, a different Walker family? That's another posting. Jennett Walker Goff had land grant #255 in Polk Co, coming with daughters Sarah and Barbary, don't know about son Jesse. Jennett must have been a widow to have a land grant in her name. Anybody know anything about this family? Sandy

    3. Just a note. I am new to the board and have few in this area but they are important to me. I for one have been busy with cemetery committee work, family reunions and working on other lines as well. Our intentions are good but time and family wait for none of us. Our health is not good but I answer most of my mail. Much goes into the "todo" file and then I go out to weed, fix meals or call or return calls, or sit grandchildren. Wish I had more hours in the day. I guess "the path to hell is paved with good intentions". Hope your wife is better soon. Many of us find the board the best company we have at times. I am sure she will enjoy the messages she gets that push her research along. Keep up the good work, you'll get your stars! In addition to personal help to individuals, I attempt to help the "Group". In a few weeks I will be in MN to do some research (annual genealogy vacation) while there I will survey 3 small cemeteries weather permitting. These will be word processed and sent to the Gen Web for the countys concerned. From experience maybe one will be published; lack of space on server, policy of the webmaster, privacy concerns, no cemetery / census section, and a hundred other reasons will cause the information to be filed with a copy sent to the local libraty / genealogy soc. I am not discouraged by this and will continue to submit info. I understand the MASSIVE nature of data and that decisions must be made in light of economics, time limits, and other limitations to manage the resources provided. 1. Especially for NACOGDOCHES: New Surname Index
    2. Pam Phillips
    3. Hello, All, I have just put up an INDEX to all of the Surnames, Queries and Researchers on the Nacogdoches Co Genweb page. Several other county coordinators in East Texas are already using the CCHelper software to create these indexes. The software is still a little rough around the edges(in my opinion -- it has crashed numerous times and most other things do not) BUT its output is really nifty. For genealogists the more searchable something is, the more valuable it is. Just think about the last book you looked at that did *not* have an index! Come take a look. The program didn't like the dates I had input, so everything defaulted to Friday night. Some of the queries are old, some are very new. I will work on adding whatever other older queries I can find, and of course, will add any new queries or surname registrations. Please limit queries and surname registrations to NACOGDOCHES COUNTY ONLY. East-Texas-Rooters with family in other East Texas Counties: go to the appropriate county and send your queries and register your surnames. If the county you are interested in does not have the Index yet, you could ask the county coordinator to take a look at the output of an East Texas county that does have the Index. Again, especially for Nacogdoches rooters -- when you register your surnames or submit a query, if you have a web page of family genealogy *that relates directly to Nacogdoches County* -- please be sure to give me the URL. There is a place for it in the Researcher Profile, and it will allow people to visit your site to find all the additional information you have there. Sincerely, Pam Phillips Nacogdoches County Genweb Coordinator

    3. Well I' going to send an answer to the list, hoping you see it. I agree with you,I did sign up for a county in Tn.- I'm in Idaho and things started getting out of hand. I was getting emails because some of the questions didn't stay in the list. I was overwhelmed with it all. I only said I would help with the page-not do the work for them. I have been doing genealogy for 30 years and 2 yrs. ago dot the computer. All the answers are not out on the net. We all still haft to look at M. film and lots of leg work. PLEASE do not judge us all by what some take for granted. Also have you'r wife take it easy. I don't know her,so try and make her know we all will understand if she takes some time for her self. Some have forgotten all we have is time. Wishing you and you'r wife - LOVE - UNDERSTANDING - and WISHING SHE IS BETTER SOON. and yes I an screaming this to you. Jerry/Idaho

    3. To Mr. Anonymous: Speaking as a State Coordinator (MO) and cc of five counties, I can explain why I *think* more people don't contribute information to county websites; if I'm wrong, I welcome corrections. The information that the average genealogist has at hand falls into two types, neither of which are postable on county sites: Family specific information---we just don't do that, it takes up a lot of server space and is useful to only a small number of researchers Copyrighted information---books that are useful for county research, but are not old enough to be in the public domain. We simply can't post that information. Having said that, I will add that if you have got old town or county histories with biographical information, and they're old enough to be out of copyright, I think the majority of cc's would more than welcome this information to put online. The big "fashion" of these books seems to have been between about 1880-1915, and those are out of copyright. If you have one, there are three levels of helpful you can be: 1)Offer to Xerox the book if the cc pays for it, and send them the Xerox. (Some might take this, but it's not really very helpful.) 2)Offer to copy the most useful parts of the book at your expense and send it to them. (this is medium helpful.) 3)Offer to type the useful parts yourself and send them that, either in email, attachments, or snailed floppy.....or offer to copy/type the index and volunteer as a lookup resource. (both of these still require work on the part of the cc...putting in the html as necessary...but are not nearly so intensive of the cc's labor, and are REALLY helpful.) If the books that you have are copyrighted, (census transcriptions etc) you can still offer to be listed to do lookups. megan Van Zandt Co TXGenWeb coordinator -- piglet@usroots.com--stage manager Gilbert & Sullivan’s THE MIKADO SSC Opera Workshop/South Holland IL July 24, 25, 26

    2. Mike
    3. I just visited Save Texas Cemeteries that James P. Barrett recommended. While there, I found other links of interest: Texas State Cemetery link was one. It lists all Civil War Vets buried in the State Cemetery + history of cemetery ,etc. The page was of real interest to me, as I found several of my lost kin there. It shows photos of some markers and gives bio. info. on some, as well as plot locations. Visit the page I think its great! Margie Kinney-Butler

    3. I'm genealogically stupid (& just going off of what I've been reading the messages on the lists that my wife recieves), but I've seen a lot of messages about people doing census information & other things coming in my wife's lists & there is a problem that I have with this. My wife has been very sick in the past year, but still been able to contribute a lot to this project. She's also a very proud woman & won't admit to anyone just how sick she's been, & heaven help the person who does, but she is very proud of what she does & I'm sure everyone else who has a county out there is also just as proud of what they do. Why do you not help them more? I want to tell you all first of all that I've seen it from the other side. I've seen my wife trying to get this information online for all of you genealogists & then I see her state coordinator trying to get people involved . I am not a genealogist & will tell you right now, I don't know more than the very basics of what is going on, except what my wife has told me, but I don't understand why there are not more people involved. If you're going to do this, do it to your best, otherwise, why bother? I've seen all the posts to my wife's website & there are 2 who are offering help & from past knowlege, this is an unusual. She is not able to respond to these at the moment, & I feel she would like me to tell these individuals that she will respond, when able to, but aside from that, I have a question for everyone else on this list. If you are all doing genealogy & all "one small community" as my wife seems to feel, why don't you contribute more? Is it that the county coordinators don't want to be bothered? I've been reading e-mail for my wife (she's indisposed until about July 15th & I have the "pleasure" of updating her queries & deleting "unimportant" e-mail for her), and I don't understand a lot of what I've been seeing in the e-mail. Everyone wants to exchange information & get information, which is great, but can't you add the data that you have to the GenWeb pages? Are you already adding it & I'm not seeing it? I've done a search of many other pages & it looks like the hour or two my wife does each night for her pages is not always typical. There are a lot of sites out there that have nothing on them. I cannot believe there are as many genealogists out there who are willing to use the pages & not contribute. I have changed the e-mail resonse address on this so as to not represent myself mainly because I don't want to have my wife having to deal with anything negative that might come from this & also to help her maintain her "non-sick annomous" status, but as a non-genealogist, I just wanted to see why more isn't being done. Thank you for listening to me.

    2. Hello, I am researching my ggrandfather and Great Grandmother Their names were Norman D. Barradall b. 1846 d. ????????? definitely in Ft. Worth Texas Lelia Barradall b. 1855 d ???????? definitely in Ft. Worth same time as Norman D. Barradall their son Norbos Barradall d. same time as them I can't find their death notice and have them living in Ft. Worth in 1880. They died somewhere between 1882 and 1900.. their daughter was born in 1881 and then sent to live with her gma when her parents died...My question is when? I have checked the 1905 on death file and they are not listed. Their family is listed in the Oakwood Cemetery but they aren't. I am really stumped. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Last request is on Sam Barradall...or C. W. Barradall..Do you have any info on them? I live in Calif. and would appreciate anything you can help me with. I saw at the Family hist. Lib. a CD49 for TEXAS. It lists a Lelia Sanford who died there in 1972 and born 1926. Does anyone have info on this person. Lelia isn't such a common name and the fact that she was a Sanford is puzzling. Thanks from a totally dazed Californian Jacquie
