I am stumped on West Florida COTTON. Last census that he is on: 1860 Hardin Co. TX 19 DAy of Aug 1860. Florida Cotton age 35; , county clerk b. FL Mary, 22 b. AL Oceanna 6 b. TX Sarah 3 b. TX Baby 5/12 b. TX Susanah 67 b. GA Mary Morse 8 b. AL Pelagrin Morse 7 b. AL William Morse 4 b. AL I know Susanah was his mother,& he had a bro Westly(Wesly) F. Cotton, possible other siblings. The Morse ch. must have been his or Marys sisters children. Marriage Book B, Jefferson Co. TX West F. Cotton X Elmira Hart 2 Dec. 1852. What has stumped me is that he was County Clerk and a fairly respectful man in his community. I have where he stopped being County Clerk in 1861. Did he join the Confederacy???? What happened to him. I have some info that a W.F. Cotton was killed in the battle of Chicamonga (sp) almost exactly 1 year after he disappears. But I cannot prove that it is him. This man joined the Conf. in LA. Mary Elmira m. Thomas Jordan in 1865 after he came home from the war. Has anyone done any research on this Cotton man. When did he leave, why did he leave and did he go in o war.???? I will be hopefully awaiting a reply from someone. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Magin

Hello, everyone, I have had some people asking what has happened to EAST-TEXAS-ROOTS. The problem is with the Internet and not with Rootsweb. Apparently, the computers that keep track of where each server is, have been down or not working correctly, and a lot of servers that are actually up and running cannot be 'found' (this info from Karen Isaacson of Rootsweb). I am receiving *some* mail from Rootsweb but not all. I think the difference may lie in which server the list happens to be on. Hopefully, it will all be straightened out soon and we'll be able to get back to comparing our roots in East Texas! Happy and Safe Fourth, Everyone! Sincerely, Pam Phillips listowner EAST-TEXAS-ROOTS-L webpsalms@iname.com
