I received information about my husband's grandfather's membership from St.Ceceila's Lodge in Chicago,Il.It states that this lodge was primarily composed of musicians and that our ancestor was one of those members. He played a trombone. They held meetings during the day because most were employed at night. Our ancestor was employed as newspaper printer for the Chicago Tribune and worked at night. His name was Cliff Andrew Kerr and was born in St.Louis in 1875.He held several offices and was a member until his death in 1953.I do not have a scanner, but I could mail you a zerox copy to see for yourself. Check with Masonic historians and they will confirm what I am telling you. Karen Kerr
I was hoping someone knew of a site where I could print out a state map of each state my ancestors lived in with the counties of that time period. By page size I meant the normal for our printers (letter size), I'm not sure where I live has to do with it but if it helps I live a few miles north of Houston, TX. Re: Beverly I tried Ancestry they did have a few but alas not all I needed thanks so much. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Val

Does anyone know where I can go to print out page size maps of the states in different years? Val Surnames BAUGH, Elisha P Jr. SCOGIN, William J ROGERS, Joseph M
Karen: The information you gave is great. There is one flaw. No Masonic Lodge exists in the world that will limit its membership to musicians or anything else for that matter. Your relative may have been a musician that belonged to a particular lodge but membership therein had nothing to do with the ability to play music. Someone on the list asked about masonic records and the only response that I saw did not believe there was much info contained in them. This was not my experience. My husband's father, grandfather, and g grandfather were from St.Loius and Chicago and their masonic records were very informative.Number one I gained knowledge of what county to look for census info.Number two,I learned exact addresses. Number three I learned their professions.Number four I learned their spouses names. Number five I learned the years of membership and thus dates of residence in those counties. Number six I learned if they held any position in the lodge and had some particular talents. Number seven I learned that one of their lodges was specifically for musicians. We never would have known that he was a musician as well as a news printer.I was not familiar with Masons in any way but was impressed with the detail and promptness of their response to my inquiry.------Karen Kerr

The Texas Masons Home Page is: http://www.gltexas.org/ They have a few historical links, but mostly it is informational If you search on "Masons" or "Freemason" on the Texas State Library Link you will find a lot of info, esp on all the schools & universities they founded or bought sites for, as well as a number of other public building & church sites. As for Texas history, while only few in number, they tally up to more than 80% of R.0.T. founding fathers (according to some estimates) TTYL, Jackie Ashley Pace of Pasadena, TX http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/p/a/c/Jackie-A-PACE/index.html

Hi all, can anyone tell who I would need to contact in Rusk CO. TX. to do some research on my Phillips. I found where my great great great grand Father Haden Phillips donated the land for the Masonic Lodge In Mt. Enterprise ( I think) and Haden & Sarah Ann Rosser Phillips are buried in a Masonic Cemetery. I would think that there would be a lot of information in the Masonic records. Where to start?? And who to contact?? I have read that they will allow this on the old records. So maybe it is not out of the question. Any ideas???? Ronda

They are a scam. When I ordered one, I just packed it up and mailed it right back to them, and was refunded the purchase price. So don't keep them if you don't like them. Get your money back.
