    3. I was ready to quit the east Texas list, until I read your e-mail...I agree, there is too much chit, chat. We have the right to zap any e-mail that does not seem important. I am connected with Freestone County (Is that in East Texas?) I think so, I want to hear form those folks...and many others. If there are some who are not happy, they should quit. Brown

    2. pam serda
    3. Hello All, Can someone enlighten me, as to when and how the county boundries changed? I'm really confused on this matter. One more question: After the boundries changed, in which county should I be searching for records? Here are the counties I'm needing help with: Hardin, Tyler, Newton, Jasper, Liberty, Atatasco, etc. Basically, the counties that would affect Hardin or Tyler Counties. Any input is greatly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me privately, if needed. Pam === Jas Hampton O 1822 AL>Daniel O 1855 AL>Mary Eboline O 1875 AL> and William F. Holmes 1836 TN>Robert W. 3. I missed the first message about Barnette's books but just to tell you what I know. Mic Barnette is a great genealogist. He has a book store in an Antique Mall, and since he doesn't man it personally he has an answering machine, and he will answer all phone messages. He writes a genealogy article for the Houston Chronicle and he teaches classes. Also try this site to reach him. Thanks Bev Gill Barnes http://barnettesbooks.com

    3. Let me 2nd this one. For anyone close enough to take advantage of its facilities, there is a Mormon Church in Longview, Texas which has a really nice little center. They have a good selection of printed matter, Microfiche & readers, & PC's with a decent collection of information on CD. 1. GWEN: MAPS
    2. Please pardon me, folks, as I did not intend to post again. In case you do not have a place near home to purchase maps: This packet of maps I purchased, LA 1810 - 1920 = 11 maps. The "original" boundary lines are in black, but under the "original" name of the Parish in lite gray, are the names of what that original became. In one instance, ATTAKAPAS became, Vermilion, St. Mary, Iberia, St. Martin, and Lafayette Parishes. On the front of these maps is the following: Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses by William Thorndale & William Dollarhide. These maps are part of a series for each state. For a list of all states now complete, send a SASE to: American Genealogical Lending Library P O Box 244 Bountiful, UT 84010 Gwen

    1. The Limmerick Tavern in Leon CO.
    2. I received a package from my Campbell cousin,Linda Sykes of Houston, this week with an old newspaper ad for the Limmerick Tavern that my gg grandfather owned in Leon Co. The newspaper was called the experiment in those days. I have thought that the saloon/cafe/grocery was probably in the town of Jewett and it was appearantly around for quite a few years. The article says that my gg grandfather William H.Campbell, who also went by Sport Houston, was resigning from his post at watching the corners since he was opening the Limmerick. I have four questions that I am hoping someone can help me with. #1) What type of job would watching the corners be? #2) Does anyone who lives in this area know of any futher info that I could get about the Limmerick and owners? #3) Are there tax records available for the 1850-1880's on businesses that are available to research? #4) Does anyone else have a connection to William H.Campbell,Duncan H.Campbell b.1872, Minnie (Virginia)Patrick,or Samuel Campbell(a tailor or baker in the same county).Sam had a retarded daughter and lived in Jewett at the time. His wife's name may have been Ima or Hulda and she may still be alive in an area nursing home. Another relative thinks that they recall a motel that the family owned in Buffalo called the Campbell Motel. Even a tidbit of info would be greatly appreciated. Karen Kerr

    1. FROM THE LISTOWNER: Thanks; How to Unsubscribe
    2. Pam Phillips
    3. Hello, everyone, Thanks for all the messages of support sent to me privately. Much appreciated. Some people are having trouble unsubscribing. You should be able to unsubscribe yourself by sending a message to [email protected] with the word unsubscribe in the BODY of the message. Subject heading in this case doesn't matter. Please make sure you have added the -request at the end, which sends the unsubscribe request to the automated server. If you get back some kind of a message that says you could not be unsubbed because you are not on the list and you KNOW you are, the problem is that when you tried to unsub, you used an email address that was different from the one you are subscribed under. Even one letter will cause this problem. I have found some on msn who have had problems because they were subscribed with the word "classic" in their address. That's a good example of what I mean. If you get that letter, it doesn't come from me, it comes from the automated server. Send me a message to [email protected], and tell me your current email address in the body of your message. My current email program makes it difficult to find the headers and try to ferret out the address. If you have any ideas about how you might have been subscribed, please let me know, and I will work with you to try to get you unsubbed. I'm sorry that some have felt I have been unresponsive, and I am trying to make up for that now. Several people have asked about the Nacogdoches County Families book. I have to finish up an end of quarter financial report but look for all the information about the book here very shortly, including all the surnames included in it, and all of the details about ordering. Thanks again to ALL for your support and for all the wonderful contributions you make. Sincerely, Pam Phillips Listowner: East-Texas-Roots-L Email: [email protected]

    3. I have information on John Henry McLeroy, his other wives, and his children. Also his ancestors back to John and Frances of Baltimore Co., MD in the early 1700s. All I have for Loula Gray is that she was born 30 June 1857 Mississippi (1900 census says May instead of June). Died 24 Jan 1914 (age 56). buried Timpson Woodlawn Cemetery, Center, Texas. They married (2nd marriage for him) November 21, 1883, Panola Co., Texas. That's all I have for her. The Children I have are: Lula Corine Carrie "Maud" Annie May Charles E. John B. Robert L. I may have slight differences in dates. I have some of their children. Corrections or explanations appreciated. 1. Houston County
    2. Okay yall, (just because I want to spell it that way), I am born and raised in Houston, Texas. My ancestors are from Lovelady, Texas / Houston County. If anybody has any info on Lovelady or where to get historical info I would love to hear it. Another thing I would like to mention is ebay. Ebay has hundreds of old pictures that are up for auction. Many of these pictures have no name on the back of them and the owner sells them sometimes for under a dollar. I have never sold anything on ebay, I have however made a few purchases, which I have been very satisfied. Just check to make sure the seller has lots of references next to there name. Also check and see if they list the shipping charge. If it does not state it in the description, and you think you might bid on this item, then please make sure you ask the seller first before you place your bid. Shipping charges are where they get you (that's just my opinion). To search for photo's just enter into the search menu one of the following: - cabinet photo - old photograph - family photo Its also fun the enter the surname you are researching. People have estate sales all the time on ebay and there maybe a family bible or other family info you are researching up for auction. Have fun. I am researching the surnames Calvert, Sullins, Bates, and Janda from Texas. Also researching the surname Balderson for Maryland. See Ya, Laura

Anyway, whenever I have seen it written in a book or an article, that is the way it is spelled. More like a contraction.
