We are planning a trip to East Texas around Lufkin. I need to know were there is good genealogy libraries around Lufkin? Thanks Carlian Massingill Pittman, [email protected] Researching: Massingill, Massengill, Massengale, Howard, Cole, Clover, Suttles, Underwoods
Hi, Does anyone have access to the 1900 Wood County census? The family of Robert and Alice Chaney and children Annie, John, and Arlington are listed as living in Rusk County in 1880 Census, but not in 1900. I think they may have moved on to Wood County by then. If someone has access to the 1900 Census for Wood county could you please check to see if this family is listed? I would be very grateful. Thanks! Lynn
I hope I didn't give the impression that all the newspapers themselves were online... merely the UT library catalog, which would include the Barker Center, where all the newspapers are housed..(actually many are offsite in cold vaults) ... the oldest ones are very fragile & sorely in need of archival care. Getting the resources to save them all is unlikely, but microfilming will hopefully save many. It's sad to have such a collection endangered. -----Original Message----- From: DAG <[email protected]> To: Kathy Hoover <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, July 04, 1999 12:59 PM Subject: Re: Where to find Newspapers in Texas >Great! Does anyone have acess to the 1880 Leon CO. Census that could tell me if William H. Campbell, wife Minnie Patrick, and sons Duncan and Samuel are listed? I have found Duncan on the 1900 Anderson CO. Census. Also, what appears to be this family living in Vanzandt Co. on the 1850 Census. I lose track of their movements in between. Any help would be appreciated. Karen Kerr

Hi List, Maybe someone can help me locate when and where Amos Tims/Thames died and is buried. The following letter in the NC archives (CR 029.928.9) to the Clerk of Court in Cumberland Co NC from J.R. Stark & Co, Marion, Angeline Co, Tx dated 3 Dec 1857 is quoted as follows: 'We make inquiry respecting Est. of David Tims Dec. David Tims died many years since in your county (supposed) or perhaps some (of) the adjoining counties. There is an heir to that estate which I am somewhat interested in this section of country and which is very 'kneedy'. We have learned from a traveling man that there is considerable funds coming to Amos Tims 'Haiir' to the Estate of David in the hands of the Admr or the Hon. County Court. We have "ritten" frequently for information on this matter but cannot get an answer..."(quoted from NC Gen Soc Journal P33 1985). This may mean that David's son Amos was in Texas by 1857. (160) No estate record for David Thames was found in Cumberland or Bladen County. Amos Thames/Tims had previously resided in Jefferson County Tx. No record of death or burial has been found for him. Maybe he died in Angelina Co Tx. Would someone check the cemeteries and other records for Amos Tims/Thames in the Angelina Co area? It would be greatly appreciated.
