Dear Jo and List, If I get an attachment from some one I do not know. I copy it to a floppy disc first and call upon Norton Anti Virus to scan the floppy disc for a virus. This usually works well and I have caught at least two in the past few moths. But you must update your Norton Software package, periodically so the latest viruses are in your software. This can be done by downloading the latest list from Norton Utilities. But to be absolutely sure that an attachment does not have a virus you need to scan each and every one with a Anti Virus. Reason: A person can have a virus in their machine, which passes the virus to you and they don't even know they have it or are passing it on. That's the nature of the virus. Recently, my nephew sent me a email with a joke attached. Knowing that he was a good guy and would never send a virus, I opened it without checking for a virus. About an hour later he called me via telephone to tell me he had passed a virus on to me and found out that he had also passed it on to everyone that was listed in his address book; that he sent a email message. So you can get from an attachment and not even know you have it and unknowing pass it on to others. I have more info on that particular virus if anyone interested or go to Norton WebPages and they explain it well. It was named the Melissa <sp> virus. Best Regards, Jimmy E. I'm not sure of all the counties my SATTERWHITE ancestors lived in other than Houston Co. I know parts of the family moved to other counties. they came from Harris Co. Georgia in the earily 1800's. Also, HALLMARK from the same area. also, the family of ALEXANDER OLIVER and his wife, Jane Killgough (?) in San Saba. Other OLIVERS in Weatherford and Terrant Co. They came from Tennessee, and N. Carolina in the early to early 1800's. Thank you so much, Helynn Frady
Dear Norma, You mentioned the RICHARDSON surname in our recent East Texas roll call..... I've tried to find anyone working on that line in Panola County, TX for a long time. There is a Mary Richardson listed in the land records as one of the original patent holders. Is this possibly one of the names you have researched? Is she somehow connected/related to any of the Rusk County Richardsons? Amy McCroskie Denver, CO
sounds like a good idea to me to Shirley Ouchley :-) (-:> searching these surname OUCHLEY..AUCHE..POWELL . OUACHLEY...JONES ' FARMER...GAINES... mailto [email protected]
Why not try to get a Forum for East Texas Surnames? Others have done single Surnames on this address. http://genforum.genealogy.com/ or perhaps a one list with all the surnames? http://www.onelist.com/isregistered.cgi just some thoughts. [email protected]
This is the correct post for this subject line: In 1880 it is interesting to look at the census records and see the dwellings listed in numerical order. There was a jail, dwelling #185-202 and the following are listed at this dwelling: W.A.G. Knight, 38, white, married, b. AL, Occupation - Jailer Father noted as being born in GA, mother in SC. Wife: S.J., 35, white, b. VA Her parents noted as both being b. VA All Children noted as white, being born in TX E.R., 14, daughter A.J., 12, son J.B., 8, son Emma, 5, daughter W. Sam, 2, son The following also noted at this dwelling as farm laborers: William Duke, 19, white, single, prisoner, b. TX. Parents noted being born in TN Ben Fewell, 29, black, married, prisoner, b. GA. Parents noted being born in GA Thomas Summers, 17, white, single, prisoner, b. TX. Father b. MS, mother b. TX Ector Johnson, 25, mulatto, married, prisoner, b. AR. Parents noted being born in AR Albert Owens, 28, mulatto, single, prisoner, b. TX. Father b. GA, mother b. MS. Occupation noted as school teacher John Clark, 28, black, single, prisoner, b. LA. Parents noted as being born in MS Mack Searls, 19, black, married, prisoner, b. TX. Parents noted as being born in GA C.C. Bell, 35, white, single prisoner, b. GA. Parents noted as being born in GA Ponip? Watson, 28, black, married, prisoner, b. TX. Father b. LA, mother b. GA Also noted in this dwelling: J.H. Langhorne, 25, white, single, boarder, b. TX. Parents noted being b. TN. Occupation noted as Deputy Sheriff Within ten dwellings on first one side or the other side of the above posted jail, the following occupations were noticed and I thought you may be interested. These people probably had their business in their homes or businesses on street level and lived above, sort of a two-story affair as was customary for the times: County Judge of Rusk County A Huckster District Clerk Gunsmith Laundress Blacksmith Sewing Machine Agent Grocer Attorney at Law Saddle & Harness maker Hack Driver Merchant Constable of Rusk County Store Clerks Cooks I just thought I would mention these, because I thought it interesting to see the dwellings around the jail. That is all I found listed as prisoners in Rusk Co., TX 1880 -- ******************************************************************** During our research trips, when a book is purchased relating to our family's history or listing information of the area, we buy two: One to keep and one to donate to our Clayton Genealogical Library in the family's name or a member of the family.
