    1. Forty Years Ago
    2. I hope someone in East Texas recognizes some of this little piece of article which I believe is either from the Gilmer Daily Mirror or the Echo, and may even perhaps be from the Gladewater paper. It is an old piece of newspaper which starts out by "Forty Years Ago" Jimmy Lawrence fell five feet down from a bridge near the cotton compress while delivering The Mirror after dark, dislocating his jaw. . . Mr. and Mrs. John Giddings returned to Brenham after visiting here . . . New county officials sworn in were J. M. Seago, sheriff, with Clem C. Hill Chief Deputy; Nat J. Harrison, Tax Collector; Will M. Smith, County Clerk; B. F. Bledsoe, justice of the peace, and W. E. Floyd, constable . . . Maurice Hinson was named deputy tax collector and Monte Belle Woodfin, Chief Deputy County Clerk . . . Mrs. Tom Medlin, 25 died at West Mountain of typhoid fever. If there is anyone out there who recognizes the year and perhaps even the month this was written I sure would like to hear from them. I think if I could identify when some of these people were named to their respective offices then I could identify when my mother's mother, Mrs. Tom Medlin died. I have been unable to find any death information on this lady. Her maiden name was Alma Lee Rains, supposedly born in Mississippi in 1902 or thereabouts and we are not sure when she died as there is no death certificate. Any help is appreciated. Still lookin, Sue Knudsen
