On the Find a grave site they have a Gibson & Sexton Cemetery, and a Gibson and Combs Cemetery both in Colson, Letcher County, KY and they have a map for the Gibson Cemetery in Letcher County. That might be helpful. On Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 8:43 AM, <moneil5217@aol.com> wrote: > > Hello List, > I am searching for any information on the Harrison-Gibson Cemetery in > Letcher County, Kentucky. Hello List, I am searching for any information on the Harrison-Gibson Cemetery in Letcher County, Kentucky. The cemetery is located near Whitesburg, maybe in Colson or Isom? It is a small family cemetery. I am looking for a list of the graves there and it's correct location. Thank you for your help. MO
Thank you again. I really appreciate your help! Michelle
Hi, Thanks for that information. I was hoping to get an idea of where, within the cemetery, to search for the gravesite. I don't have a plot number. I don't know the history of the cemeteries, so I'm unaware if there is a "rural" area or not. Thanks, Michelle
Michelle, I have been reading some articles that say that the cemetery is not being cared for properly so I hope you are not shocked when you see it. My cousin and I went to Green Hills Memorial Gardens which is newer and they were mowing it, and weedeating, but it was also a mess. I think funds are low everywhere so the cemeteries are taking the loss as well. I just hope you are able to find some kind of plot map there and find her marker. Maybe you will just walk to it like I did my folks in Cubbage. We actually knew which section the people were buried in when we went to the Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Hope for the best. Here is a link to the history of Middlesboro Cemetery. Ruth Gibson is listed without a Lot number, but she must have a marker. http://www.bellcountypubliclibraries.org/crm/ky/bell/middlesboro.html On Wed, May 19, 2010 at 3:08 PM, <Michellegreene4@aol.com> wrote: > Hi, > > Thanks for that information. This cemetery should be right in town there somewhere. I was recently in Middlesboro and it isn't very large. I didn't go to this particular cemetery. I should have, my Colsons are buried there. There old house is in the middle and maybe the cemetery records are in it. I hope someone who knows where it is will post. I went to the Cubbage Cemetery and found my great-great grandparents markers almost instantly. It was like magic. I don't know how we did it either. I will do some more checking to see if they have any kind of caretaker etc. at the Middlesboro Cemetery. Hi, I am new to the list. I am trying to locate the grave of my aunt, Ruth Gibson, who died in Middlesboro in October of 1926. Her death certificate shows she was buried in Hurst Cemetery, but lists place her at Middlesboro Cemetery. I believe they are adjacent to one another. I wondered if a map was available of either cemetery? I'm traveling from California and will have limited time in Bell County. I was hoping to try to gather as much information on the burial site as possible before I leave. Also, would anyone have a list of undertaker's for Middlesboro back during that time? Certificate of death show it as "Gibson Brothers". Because of the name & time period, I'm wondering if her father & uncles buried her or if there was an actually business with that name. Any suggestions or information will be appreciated. Michelle Greene
Ruth Gibson is listed in the Middlesboro Cemetery. Here are the directions by C. Richard Matthews: Location: located on Hurst Ave behind the Radio Station and next to the Hurst Cemetery in Middlesboro. <http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Middlesboro+Cemetery,+Middlesboro,+KY&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=&rlz=1I7GGIT_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Middlesboro+Cemetery+Rd,+Middlesboro,+KY+40965&gl=us&ei=uzX0S9S4B4rcNtfk4aYO&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CB8Q8gEwAA> On Wed, May 19, 2010 at 1:33 PM, <Michellegreene4@aol.com> wrote: > Hi, > > I am new to the list. John A. Fannin, son of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin, was born in Wayne County, WV 22 July 1857; married 12 March 1882 in Wayne County, Mary Alice Honeycutt. They settled in Johnson County, Kentucky to raise a family. His occupation is given as House Carpenter. The Johnson County 1910 Kentucky census listed them in Buffalo Precinct. His death certificate gives influenza as cause of death. It says he died at Odds. I would like to know what cemetery he is buried in, and if there is a Rebecca, b. about 1850 buried near his grave. She is the object of my research and his older sister. She was married to a Workman in 1868 and divorced him in 1877. I’ve never found a clue to her second marriage or where they went. go to usgenweb.org and you can acecss every state. When you access KY you can then access your county and find what they have and do not have. It is my understanding that the Ky cemetery project requires there to be some sort of board in each county to oversee the projects. I would like to know the burial place of JOHN A. FANNIN, born 22 July 1857 in Wayne County, (W) Va; lived and died at Odds, Johnson County, Kentucky. He died 21 January 1923. His death certificate said he was buried at Odds. Another source mentions the Fannin plot in Van Lear Cemetery. Another source says he was buried in the Thompson or Tomason Cemetery on Cow Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky. I couldnt find an obituary for him. Anyone know where he is buried, the name of cemetery, and driving directions to it? Thanks. Ralph Sayre sayrehouse@juno.com
