    3. Are any of the Creels listed here from Thomas Creel & Elizabeth Dearman line? or Wesley Creel and Jerusha Nicholas? pat c ----- Original Message ----- From: Dan Creel To: GroupofCreels@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2008 12:50 PM Subject: [GroupofCreels] Re: Mazie Pauline's lineage Well, I thought I would continue by "jumpin' online" and gleaning Rebecca Laper's parents from the census records. But, Rebecca Laper is nowhere to be found! "Jumpin' online" turned out to be a 100-yard dash in lead boots! So, I did a census analysis of the 1880 Bowie Co., TX, the 1870 MS census, and the 1860 MS census, Civil War records, etc. I'll try to put this in (my) chronological order of reseach and how I came to certain opinions. 1) 1880 census - Lewis's wife in Bowie Co. was M. A.,16, MS LA AL. Next door was C. M., 31, MS LA GA, wife of R. G. Stearl(i)ng, with step-children M. A. LOPER, female, 11, MS LA AL, and George LOPER, 18, MS LA AL, noted as a step-son. 2) 1870 census - closest matches - wife C. M. Stearling of 1880(husband R. G., 30, LA LA AL) matches well with Martha Loper, 24, AL, who has a daughter Medamade, 7 months old as of 8-18-1870. Household #63, Ellisville PO, Twp 10, Jones Co., MS; Jacob Rodgers, 57, Farmer, GA; wife Margaret H.,, 62, GA; in home - Sarah J., 27, AL; John A., 21, AL. Medamade matches well with M. A. Loper, 11, MS, of 1880. The closest match for Rebecca was M. A. Loper, age 7, MS (MS MS), daughter of Richard, 40, MS, and Nancy J., 33, MS; #299, Meridian PO, Twp 7, Lauderdale Co., MS; 6-30-1870. Richard Loper had married Nancy J. FAIRCHILDS in Lauderdale Co., 10 Dec 1854. M. A. matches her 1880 listing. It seems 2 FAIRCHILDS sisters had married 2 LOPER brothers - Joseph A. Loper married Jincy A. A. Fairchilds in Lauderdale Co., 21 Dec 1852. 1860 - reference - M. A. Rogers, 13, AL; daughter of Jacob(46 NC) and Margaret(50 GA) Rogers; #902, Beaver Dam PO, Clarke Co., MS; 7-31-1860. Clarke Co. is next to Jasper Co. to the east. Evidence suggests she married a LOPER who died c1869; it is fairly proven she is the wife of R. G. Stearling in 1880 Bowie Co., TX, next door to M. A. Rebecca LOPER Creel. M.(Martha) A. Rogers Loper Stearling(as C. M. Stearling in 1880) has a daughter M.(Medamade) A. Loper, age 11, and M.(Martha) A. Rebecca Loper Creel has a daughter M.(Margaret) A. born in March 1880 - this concentration of females with initials M. A. cannot be pure coincidence, especially since they are known to have come from MS. I certainly haven't proven much with this research but have enough for some "educated opinions" - Rebecca Laper was actually M. A. Rebecca Loper, daughter of Richard Loper and Nancy J. Fairchilds, who married in Lauderdale Co., MS, 10 Dec 1854. M. A. was born there in July 1863. An online post has M. A. as Mary Ann. I don't have a clue who George LOPER was but he is not found in MS on the 1870 census and M. A. Rogers seems too young to have been his mother, besides the 1870 census showing her with only 7-month-old Medamade LOPER. M. A. Rogers seems to have been either a sister-in-law or, more likely, an aunt-in-law of M. A. Rebecca Loper. On with the Creels! Lewis Pinkney Creel was a son of James R. Creel, born c1808 in Chesterfield District of SC, and who died before 1870 in Jones Co., MS. He was married to Elizabeth DEARMAN. Her surname has not been proven but the DEARMAN clan was allied with the Creel clan for several generations, in SC and MS. She was born c1817 in Tennessee and died between 1856 and 1860 in Jones Co., MS. Children - 1)Manerva, c1833. NFR 2)John Calvin, 18 Dec 1835 to 01 Feb 1916 Calcasieu Parish, LA. Notes: "John Calvin Creel had brothers who fought in the Civil War - he was separated from them in the fighting near Natchez and was reunited many years later." - 1965 letter to Owens, p335, AIW. Very likely the John Creel who filed for a Confederate Pension in Louisiana. 1900 - with son David C. in Calcasieu Parish, LA; John C. Creel, Dec 1835, 64, widower, MS GA TN. 1880 - John Creel, 46, Farmer, MS MS MS; #132, 6th Ward, Upper Sabine, Calcasieu Parish, LA. 1870 - #238, Monroe PO, Perry Co., MS; John Creele, 33, MS, Farmer. In #243 was Zaker Creele. I wasn't certain, and many of the Group can attest to many mistakes I've made! You have quite an extended family you haven't known about. Offhand I'd say you're related to a majority of the Creels in Mississippi, quite a few in SE Alabama, and many in Florida, not to mention others across the US by now! There are some of your distant relatives within our group. All descendants of Thomas Creel and Charity Duke can say "Howdy!" to a cousin! I'll continue with your Creel line's history. Please feel free to point out any errors, ask any questions, or just "whatever." Mazie's mother was Bertha Jackson, and I think she was the Mrs. L. R. Creel who died in Parker Co., TX, 23 Jun 1954. Have birth only as c1890 TX. Have found 2 siblings of Mazie - 1)James Isaiah (Leroy) Creel, 04 Apr 1923 TX to 17 Apr 1983 Goliad Co., TX. He married Tammie Naomi Duncan c1944. 2 children found - Beverly Sue, 26 Feb 1945 and James Leroy, 06 Jan 1954 Jones Co., TX. 2)Billy Mac Creel, 25 Feb 1932, married Shirley Faye Shaw, one son found - Bobby Joe Creel, 02 Jul 1956 Parker Co. James Lee Roy Creel was a son of Lewis Pinkney Creel, born Oct 1851, probably Jones Co., MS, died around 1910 in either Bowie or Dallas Co.(best guess). Lewis married Rebecca Laper, born Jul 1865 MS, died ? Notes for Lewis Pinkney Creel - 1910 - wife was in Dallas Co., TX, noted as married but he was not with family. 1904 - L. P. The change will mostly affect anyone who is subscribed in both list and digest modes. You will no longer be able to subscribe to both lists modes with the same address. You can belong to both modes if you like but you will need to subscribe to them using different email addresses. You can always use a free online email service such as yahoo, hotmail, or gmail. Anyone who would like an invite to gmail please contact me at jasche45133@gmail.com. If you do not change your mailing address to the digest mode you will no longer receive a digest copy, but you will still continue to receive your mail under list mode. Once again this only pertains to those folks who subscribe to both list and digest modes using the same email address. For everyone else things should go smoothly. For additional information regarding the list migration see: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html Please do not discuss this on this list. If you have any questions please email me privately jasche45133@gmail.com. Sincerely, Joan Asche Admin

    1. Early Nazarene Minister - R. A. Noakes

    3. My interest in the list stems from the fact that my father was a Nazarene preacher; he began his ministry in Illinois in the mid-1930's. Raymond Arthur Noakes was a fund raiser deluxe - which meant that his talent was used to build new church buildings. This pretty well meant my brother and I changed schools every year or so; and at times even more than once in the year. He sometimes would stand and preach on the street corners - during the depression era - to bring notice and interest in the new church that was going up. Dad's ministry included Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. In Illinois, his district manager (I'm sure that's the wrong term for this) was a Rev. Chalfant. He passed November 9, 1982. Dorothy Noakes Lowe

    3. I joined the list because I'm a Nazarene and am interested in the history of the church. I would especially like to hear about the old evangelists. I especially remember an evangelist names George Cocoras and would like to know what happened to him. (I hope I got his name right) I believe that he was a convert from the Greek Orthodox Church. 2. Welcome. I had an uncle paul and aunt helen who were evangelist and played and sang music back in the 60's and 70,s and my dad was a music director for many of the Nazarene churchs we attended and would love to know more about them. Thanks and welcome again ________________________________________________________________________ Try Juno Platinum for Free! Then, only $9.95/month!
