Family lore has it that he was from Tyrrellspass, near Dublin, and that he was a horse trainer. His parents were Mary and Edward Egan, according to his death certificate. The Egan name seems to shift between Egan and Eagan in various documents. Here in New York Michael worked at the Egan Leek (Or perhaps Egan Leahy) undertaking business, which was located at 225 Spring Street. Up until he death in the 1890s they lived at 19 Vandam Street in Manhattan, just a few blocks away from his business. It was at 19 Vandam that my Grandmother, Antoinette Egan, was born. Her brothers and sisters included Michael, Mary, Catherine and Edward. After the death of their parents they lived for a time on King's street, which is also in Greenwich Village. Michael was married to Sarah Catherine Reed who died in December of 1895 at the age of 37, was born in New York. Sarah's parents -- Thomas Reed and Mary Reed -- were born in Ireland. Others in the same grave at Cavalry in Queens, New York, include Mary Helen Egan, who was born in NYC and died in December of 1945 at that age of 61; Catherine Egan, who was born in Ireland and died in November of 1891 at the age of 60; and Patrick Eagan who was born in Ireland and died in March of 1898 at the age of 68, among others. Any info -- or photos -- would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
