    3. Dear Sandra   I'm not sure where this interesting conversation has got to... but I have found Morgans Park via Digimap - which you may not have access to.  If you find the large parish church in Rudbaxton (St Michaels) and look North East or possibly "slightly" nor'nor' East you should find it on an older map.  Its a fair way away.  West and slightly south of a place which I think is called Withy Hedge ??  - in the early 20th C maps there are buildings marked, but no name.  In what digimap calls a "contemporary" map there is a dwelling/building of some sort there, and a track.   http://www.geograph.org.uk/showmap.php?gridref=SM960205   If you use this link to the geograph map, click on map and drag down slightly until you can see Withy Hedge - then what is shown as a pale orange rectangle is on the spot marked as Morgans Park in earlier maps. [This orange rectangle is just above the M in PEMBROKESHIRE ]  - of course it may now be a totally different building.   map refs -  E 197013   N 221354  [E = Easting, N = Northing]   Eastings run across the map, and Northings up and down.   If you only get (from wherever) a 6 digit number the first three digits are the Easting and the last three are the Northing.  I think I have that the right way round  - you can tell I got my map readers badge.   Hope that helps   Jen From: SANDRA DAVIES <[email protected]> To: Gareth <[email protected]>; Dyfdd List <[email protected]>; MeganRoberts <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, 2 June 2012, 18:34 Subject: Re: [Dyfed] Old Maps   Looks like its now under the landfill :(   ________________________________ From: Gareth <[email protected]> To: Dyfdd List <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, 2 June 2012, 18:24 Subject: Re: [Dyfed] Old Maps <I'm sure someone on the list can tell us how to find those co-ordinates on a map Use the search box on streetmaps or old maps http://streetmap.co.uk/ http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html Gareth Genuki Wales http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/ Gareth's Help Page http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ukwales2/hicks.html Cwmgors a'r Waun http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cwmgors/Waun.html -----Original Message----- From: SANDRA DAVIES Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2012 6:10 PM To: Megan Roberts ; Dyfdd List Subject: Re: [Dyfed] Old Maps Hi Megan I was going to suggest looking at the near neighbours of Morgans Park on the 1891 census and to then search for those addresses on the modern interactive mapping system on the Council website.  If you found one of those addresses, you then have the option to transfer to an 1891 map of the same area.  You might find Morgans Park that way. However,  Genuki place names at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/PEM/places2.html lists Morgans Park,Rudbaxton (PEM),196980,221330 with the numbers being the x,y co-ordinates. I'm sure someone on the list can tell us how to find those co-ordinates on a map! Unfortunately none of them have shown the farm I was looking for - Morgan's Park, Rudbaxton - it last appears in the 1891 census, having first appeared in the 1851 census. regards Megan ________________________________ ================================ Dyfed list http://home.clara.net/daibevan/DyfedML.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ================================ Dyfed list http://home.clara.net/daibevan/DyfedML.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ================================ Dyfed list http://home.clara.net/daibevan/DyfedML.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ================================ Dyfed list http://home.clara.net/daibevan/DyfedML.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
