Record offices don't supply birth or death certificates but they can supply copies of entries in the baptismal, marriage and burial parish registers for a fee. They are archives. Certificates purchased online from the GRO are 9.25GBP postage paid to anywhere in the world. They take 10-14 days on average to arrive. If you are not sure you have the correct entry, check the box to say you do *not* have the reference and don't give it. This will allow you to give reference checking points. The GRO will check for a year or two either side of the date you give. If they find the entry that matches your criteria, they will issue the certificate. If it does not, you get a full refund. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ You will need to register but there's no charge for doing so. Certificates purchased from a local register office cost 9GBP plus postage but you may not be able to order online or pay using a card. You'll be able to find the address via a search engine but remember it is a register office not a record office. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
