Hi Bryn Certificates obtained direct from the GRO online cost £9.25. Certificates obtained from local registrars now cost a basic £10 but they are entitled to charge search fees as well. You can pay as much as £15 depending on the charges imposed by the local authority. Therefore if you are certain about the index entry you have found order the certificate from the GRO online. If you have two possible entries of the same name for an event in the same district within 12 months of each other and cannot decide which is your ancestor then, as the GRO will not conduct any checks for father's name at birth or marriage, age at death etc, , you will have to ask a local registrar to do so for you paying the extra costs. However this usually works our cheaper than sending for the wrong certificate in the first place and having to obtain a second one! Kind regards Joy

If the reference is given, no, they won't do any checks *but* if the reference is *NOT* given and the box checked to say you don't have it, you will be given the option to give reference checking points. The GRO will then do a check and issue the certificate IF the points match If the points do not match, a full refund is given.
