    3. Would anyone know if there are Records available for people in local government offices in the Tenby area for the 17th; & 18th; century’s? I have a few of my GETHIN family who were maybe resident in Tenby during the period. A George GETHIN was on board the Ship HMS;Princess Augusta at Tenby in 1745. My Ancestor Robert GETHIN was of Tenby when he sold the rights to Nicholaston Hall in Glamorgan to his son-in-law William ROGERS of Swansea for 150 pounds on the 25th;of may 1692. There was also a Mr;Robert GETHIN,alderman, esq; of Tenby in 1733. He may have been the same man as above? The above from Haverfordwest Arhives. I also have details of a few “Will’s”off the N>L>W;Website. Rowland GETHIN left money to his brother’s in 1662. One of them Robert Above was the Executor. He gave his brother Thomas 70 pounds.Another Brother Griffith 60 pounds. Rowland was of Tenby & Bishopston[Gower,South Wales] Graham in Cardiff.

    2. Graham The Tenby Borough archive appears to be split between Tenby Museum and the record office at Haverfordwest although only the Museum's collection appears to contain anything from the pre-1750 period. There's a useful bibliography for both collections (including a box list for the Museum collection) on the following web site created as part of the 'Resorts' Project' based at the University of Aberystwyth. http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/history/research-projects/resortsproject/ You might want to contact the Museum to see if they have a fuller catalogue. BTW - Robert Gethin (will, 1733): some of his descendants farmed at Dawes, Begelly, well into the 1900s. I have some more information so contact me off line if you are interested. 3. Dear Robert, There are no listed marriages for the surname Gethin in the part of the Pemb. index which includes the Tenby area pre 1813, but in the Francis Green version of the 1661 King's Benevolence...the Free and Voluntary Present to His Majesty (i.e. to help Charles II with his debts), in the Town of Tenby a Rowland "Gething", gent gave 8 shillings. The largest sum donated from this particular area was 20 shillings by Reeve Williams Esq., Richard Wyatt, Alderman and Mistress Mary Bowen, a widow. Only four others gave 10 shillings and the majority gave a shilling or two. Your Rowland obviously thought more of his brothers than he did his King. 3. My grateful thanks to Jon & Bettye for information on my GETHIN'S. In the previous generations they married in to the DAWKINS family of Kilvrough near Swansea, and my lot,the FRANKLIN'S,[and Variants] back to a William FRANKLIN who was around in 1400. He inherited Land from Thomas FRANKLIN the Abbot of Neath & Margam. Although I have no idea if he was William's dad or just a relation? One of my ancestors was Jenkin FRANKLIN born around 1460 and died in 1485. Which is when the Battle of Bosworth Field took place. I wonder if he was involved in that Skirmish? Cheers and Thanks again. Graham Williams in Canton,Cardiff. Glam;FHS;551.
