Dear Bettye, Thank you for your response. Although (as far as I know) William Cozens is not part of my tree, I think that it is interesting to be able to trace peoples lives. I had a look in the Prison Hulks data base and as you can see from below he was there for about a year. The last item "how disposed of" is very feint and I think that it says "bol", which perhaps could be "bill of lading"? UK, PRISON HULK REGISTERS AND LETTER BOOKS, 1802-1849 Name: William Cozens Age: 24 Date Received:30 Aug 1834 Ship: Fortitude Place Moored: Chatham Date Convicted: 19 Jul 1834 Place Convicted: Haverford West, Pembrokeshire How disposed of- “b o l” 7th May 1835 Assuming that William was sent to Australia, he may not have arrived; - died during the voyage. Dear Megan, There is a Thomas Cousens aged 35 on the "Countess of Harcourt"...the next entry is for the same vessel and the year shown is 1827...he was sent to Patricks Plains, New South Wales, and his master was R. Scott. It does not show where he was tried, or his origin.....this is from the General Return of Convicts in New South Wales 1837.....and is the only entry shown for the various surname spellings......so William Cozens shown below apparently did not come to this State.
