Hello List, I have come across a family from Wales named surname"George" in Paddys Run, Butler County, Morgan Township. Ohio US census 1860. John George could be an illegitimate ancestor to me. Therefore I am doing considerable research into this family.(He would only be my ancestor if he came from Pembrokeshire, but there is no way of verifying this) His occupation is stated to be "D/L" and he has an estate of £200. I wonder if anyone would know what his occupation could be? Many thanks Yvonne Evans
Yvonne - I would suggest "Day Labourer" but don't know this for sure. You could do a search on Google of occupations listed on the 1860 census. Or you could look at others on the census to see what they have listed for occupation. You may find something similar.
