    3. >From my personal experience with the Baptists, they baptize when a child is old enough to make a personal choice. In my case, it was the age of ten. There were no other churches in the town, so my sister and I were baptized when we asked to be. The pastor told my parents we were a little young, but he felt we were sincere in our request. Adults were being baptized at the same time we were. Either they had belonged to another denomination that didn't "dunk" and had to be re-baptized, or they had never been baptized in the first place. When we moved to a town that had a Mormon Church, the whole family had to be baptized again because the LDS Church didn't think the Baptist minister had the authority from God to baptize. I abstained that time. One dunking was enough for me. So, I can imagine a person could be christened in the Church of England or a Catholic church in the 17th century, then re-baptized (dunked) at a later age.
