One family, from the 1806 marriage, is based in between modern Saundersfoot and Kilgetty at Ivy Chimney Lane. I originally transcribed the bride's surname as Butterfield and have confirmed it in the Dyfed FHS index just now. There were various strands of Butterfield families in this particular neighbourhood. When William dies in 1816, Martha remarries later that year. He left a will confirming Martha as his wife but does not list any children (This is available free of charge on NLW's site, ref SD/1816/191). 2. The other is based on the William/Martha marriage in 1810 where William is a carter/labourer/farmer and lived in the Williamston part of Begelly parish. His several occupations were interchangeable in the coalmining area in which they lived. A William Ormond occupies 12 acres of land in the 1842 Williamston tithe map/award and a cottage and garden just over the parish boundary in St Issells, so he was not farming on a large enough scale to obviate the need for a second job. Many local small holders such as he carted coal for the collieries down to the local beaches/harbour for shipping and made more money from that than they did from farming! No trace of a baptism for James. I have the marriage certificate for James Ormond (likely born in Williamston in the mid-1820s) who married in Tenby on 22/3/1851. His father was a carter, named William so most likely the William in #2 above. I don;t know to which set of parents William bapt 1813 belongs. The one fly in the ointment against this interpretation is that Joseph Callen witnessed Martha Butterfield/Ormond's re-marriage in 1816. It may be pure co-incidence that the bride in the other William/Martha was a Callen as well. I wonder if someone would have the time to look through the Parish Registers for Begelly and St Issells from about 1800 to 1830 looking for baptisms, marriages or burials for any ORMONDs; I do not think that there would be be too many entries in that time frame. I have already found the marriage of William to Martha RICHARDS on 20 December 1806 and William and Martha CALLEN on 30 June 1810 both in St Issells. I am especially looking for the baptism of James ORMOND about 1824/5 and the burial of a Martha ORMOND before 1841 - but I am not sure of the parishes. I would appreciate any help and would be please to contact anyone with ORMOND family in this area. Thanks and best wishes, Ted White, Ontario, Canada. ================================ Dyfed list http://home.clara.net/daibevan/DyfedML.html ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to DYFED-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
