    1. [Dyfed] Llanddeusant forebears

    3. Dear all, Picking up on the note from Arthur Turner-Thomas about the Awbrey's, my forebears in part are the Lewis' of Pant Howell, Pentwyn and Pencrug in the parish of Llanddeusant. In a number of references (incl Mjr Francis Jones) I have found the family is stated to be entitled to bear the arms of Owain Gethin of Glyntawe through the marriage of Owain's daughter to an Aubrey, part of whose family eventually became the Lewis Aubrey's and ultimately the Lewis'. Owain Gethin was a 7th generation descendant of the last native Prince of Brycheiniog, Bleddyn ap Maenyrch, who was killed fighting the Norman army of Bernard de Neufmarche at the battle of Caerbannog, near Brecon, in Easter week 1093. Through his paternal grandmother, Bleddyn ap Maenyrch's line can be traced back to the kings of Gwynedd (North Wales), and by marriage his descent can be traced in Bartrum back to Coel Godebog, a tribal patriarch of Rheged ( now southern Scotland) about AD 370." Whilst delighted if someone else would do all the hard work, I would be equally delighted if SKS could spell out how I go about proving that these statements about a connection to Owain Gethin are true. Regards Roger M Evans
