Hi Bob You are looking for a needle in a haystack, like most of us (I'm looking for Davies, Thomas, Morgan, Beynon, Morris, Jones (oh dear!) and Williams, all in Llanelly and all about the same time. There's no reason you shouldn't find it, though! from Ancestry - 1861 census: Name: David Davies Age: 1 Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relation: Son Father's Name: David Mother's Name: Margaret Gender: Male Where born: Llanelly, Carmarthenshire, Wales Civil Parish or Township: Llanelly Town: Llanelly County/Island: Carmarthenshire Country: Wales Image sent off list Registration district: Llanelly Sub-registration district: Llanelly ED, institution, or vessel: 6 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 38 Household Members: Name Age David Davies 38 Margaret Davies 26 Elizabeth Davies 13 Ann Davies 11 David Davies 1 Daniel Richards 22 This means that your man David senior married twice! Third and final episode - And, using the age in the 1841 census, from freeBMD, four possibles for the first daughter: Dec 1840 Davies Sarah Carmarthen 26 456 Davies Sarah Carmarthen 26 451 Davies Sarah Carmarthen 26 447 Davies Sarah Carmarthen 26 458 from Ancestry: 1841 Wales Census about Sarah Davies Name: Sarah Davies Age: 7 Mo Estimated birth year: abt 1840 Gender: Female Where born: Carmarthenshire, Wales Civil parish: Laugharne Hundred: Derllys County/Island: Carmarthenshire Country: Wales [Image sent off list] Registration district: Carmarthen Sub-registration district: St Clare Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Peter Lewis 55 Elizabeth Lewis 50 David Davies 20 Elizabeth Davies 25 Sarah Davies 7 Mo Unfortunately, it does not appear that the Lewises are in-laws. There was no marriage in the Carmarthen RD from start of civil registration to the end of 1841 between a David Davies and anyone called Lewis. The most likely marriage is one of these three: Dec 1839 qr DAVIES David Carmarthen 26 733 DAVIES David Carmarthen 26 732 DAVIES David Carmarthen 26 759 so the spouses could be - Elizabeth WILLIAMS/DAVIES/FARE, respectively,if this supposition is correct. Incidentally, the middle one of these, Elizabeth Davies, did certainly marry another Davies, either Daniel or David. If it were my case, I'd now rummage through the censuses to find out if any of the daughters were at any time living with in-laws, so that you can identify the right marriage without having to resort to buying a birth certificate. Please contact me off list if you want to order certificates. You would probably be best advised to get them from the Local Register Office if you are not certain of whether what you are ordering is right (rather than the GRO -it's potentially cheaper and much quicker). I guess from your e mail address that you are likely to be in the USA, and if this is the case, you will in practice need someone here to apply on your behalf. I am happy to do this for you. I hope this is of some use.
