To: <dyfed@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <001601ca5ea5$6c863530$45929f90$@com.au> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi there Could SKS please tell me where Roose is? I seem to have several people coming from there. I thought it might be Roch, but I'm not sure. Ta Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia To Alethea (had a great aunt by that name), to Wendy and to David (hi from Kaleen!) ... Thanks for your reply. I asked the question because I have a Harry Bateman in Llanstadwell PEM in the early 1600s with a mother supposedly a Dawkyn from Roose. Am trying to track who his mother may be. His father William Bateman is said to have lived at Rosepool. However, I find that Dawkyn is a name from GLAM, so I am still not sure whether I am looking in PEM or GLAM. I shall keep digging. Thank you Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia
Is this Rhoose, the town just west of Barry (GLA), and the site of Cardiff International airport? Derek Falkner Kingston, Ontario, Canada. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Penmark/Rhoose/ There are DAWLIN in Penmark Parish David
Dear Lynne, Try Rhos Hundred......alphabetically, from Burton through to Walwyn's Castle. There is no Bateman/Dawkins marriage listed in the pre-1813 marriages for Rhos Hundred. Most of the area's marriage records start in the 1700's, though Steynton marriages are from 1637. John Bateman 1712 is the earliest Bateman shown and John Dawkins is the earliest of that surname at Steynton in 1662. In the female records Margaret Bateman in 1605? married H.....B......at Haverfordwest St. Mary...ref. HPR2/1 p.29... which reference you could acquire from Haverfordwest Records Office, though the identity of H. B. would seem to be unknown. The only Dawkins female reference is in 1801. Regards.
