I've had a rather sturdy brick wall with this lady for some time, hoping someone may be able to help chip away at the masonry... Sophia CHARLES was born in Carmarthen - not sure if that's the town or Carmarthenshire. Family legend has it that she was the niece of Thomas Charles, a prominent Methodist from St Clears, Carmarthenshire, who settled in Bala, North Wales and founded the British & Foreign Bible Society at the beginning of the 19th century. She married John PATRICK of Lincoln on 26 Apr 1836 (just short of civil registration!) in Llanina, CGN, & they took over the Black Lion Inn in New Quay, which remained in the PATRICK family until the 1960s. Sophia was 'found dead' on 31 Oct 1853 at the Black Lion; an inquest was held in Dec but no further details have emerged. If anyone has any connections, or suggestions to reveal anything more of Sophia's life & antecedents, I'll be happy to hear from them. Regards Dick
