I'm wondering if he descended from Zephaniah Davies who inherited Pencraig from Thomas Lewis of Llwynygrawis in 1775 and recorded it his 1792 will. There is a reference in West Wales Historical Records, the 14 books mainly by Francis Green - he wrote an article about a ship's captain who left some information on his errands to Bristol in 1765. I don't exactly remember the name but I think it might have been Abel Davies.
