My family came to Australia in 1841, from Haverfordwest. Could someone please tell me if there are any shipping records available over there, as I'm having trouble finding them from this end. Thanks Jenny
Dear Jennifer, I could never find any shipping records for one of my families which came out to NSW in the 1850's....I was told it was like commuters off the present day Manly ferry......and nobody worries about their details! At which State did your ancestors arrive...and do you know where (which port) they embarked/disembarked, or on which vessel? State Libraries are often very helpful and then there are the various Australian Archives for the various States. or those in Canberra. What you need is a good convict....(actually a bad convict).....the ship's manifests are marvellous for those......incl. height, eye colour and any identifying scars or marks including the state of their teeth if it was relevant to their appearance. Try Googling a few possible sites......such as relevant State obituaries. The family may have recorded such information as arrival details.
