Hi Michael and other listers, I have just gone into Rootsweb World Connect Project. I was fascinated to see that it contained names of Noots from the Netherlands interspersed with Pembrokeshire Noots, and this happened on every page. I therefore feel that there is quite a strong basis that the Noots originated in the Netherlands. Gerry Lewis(lister) has informed us that the earliest Noot in Pembs is Francis Noote of Walwyns Castle 1608. This is another mystery as Francis is not a Dutch Christian name! and also what would have made these Noots from Netherlands settle in Pembs!? Maybe the Noots who are not listers may have heard a family tale of the origin of the name? Best wishes Yvonne Evans
