H All, Thornhill Crematorium was opened in 1953 and occupies a 40-acre site shared with Thornhill Cemetery. If you look at the pdf file map of the Thornhill cemetery and compare with Google maps aerial photo you will see the distinctive shape of the area B ( which is marked 'Lawn Section Burial' on the map) and will see that there are memorials in that plot, quite small compared to the size of other objects in the aerial photo like cars and new graves and most notably not throwing long shadows, so probably not very tall. Memorials I have seen at Thornhill have simple inscriptions, often simply names, or names and dates. The simplest thing, Elwyn, is to contact the cemeteries department. Given the reference number they should have a record of whether there is any memorial on the plot, and also with the names should be able to tell you whether there are any entries in the 'Book of Remembrance' at the crematorium building (location marked BOR on the pdf map). I don't know when Thornhill opened, but I suspect that the 1958 burial might have been one of the first.
