    3. Hi again all, Thank you for looking up Jardine and David names for me in the Crunwear Will. I feel now that my Hester was probably not Hester David or Hester Jardine. The facts I have are: Esther/Hester married Richard Magness and had a daughter, Mary Jane born in 1814 in Lower Bullingham, Herefordshire. According to census and death information, Hester was born about 1790 in Haverfordwest. I can find no marriage for Richard and Hester and I can find no birth for my Richard Magness. Richard was born in about 1780 and died in 1831. He is NOT the Mansel Gamage Richard who was also born in 1780. I feel that my Richard is probably related to the Herefordshire Magnesses but have no proof yet. Parish records have come up negative. I can follow Hester and Richard and their children after the birth of Mary Jane up to their deaths but cannot find out who Richard and Hester's parents /families were. I am interested in Hester because she is my direct mitochondrial line. If anyone has a clue or ideas, please let me know. Thanks again and good luck to everyone with your research. Cheers! Colin

    3. Dear Colin, Perhaps the Pemb. RO could do a search of the Haverfordwest baptisms for you to see if they could locate Hester/Esther .....it should not be too expensive. Magness is not a surname I can find in the Rhos Hundred records.........not with that spelling. In 1748/49 however at Steynton Michael MAGNIS married Florana Brown and in 1755 Florana MAGNIS married James Jones at Steynton. Unfortunately I can't see any Wills which might help, but any children born to Florana from her first marriage may have been placed with their paternal grandparents when she remarried....I've seen several occasions when the children were farmed out to relatives in such cases. If there had been more than one marriage recorded under "Magnis" I would not have queried the surname, but as it is, there is a possibility the scribe was responsible for the spelling as, at this time, many folks could not read or write. Don't forget, when looking for your elusive ancestors to check for very odd and alternate spellings.
