    3. Bettye Good to hear from you. Yes there were Selbys at Huan later on and in fact I believe still own the property. The spelling of the Selby name certainly varies and I believe it's largely due to the Pembrokeshire dialect. My own grandfather was born a Selby, married as a Shelby and died as a Selby. There are also many other variations in the spelling due to very bad transcriptions. The witnesses at the marriage of Anne Peregrine and William Shelby are Thomas Shelby , William's brother and a David Evan. I must admit I haven't checked to see whether David had witnessed any other marriages in the church. In 1825 William and Anne were living at Selvetch when son Thomas was baptised and when William died in 1846 they were living in Cwm. Both places as far as I know were in Eglwyswrw. I've found a Benjamin Peregrine bc 1803 living in the Poor house Eglwyswrw in 1851 who gives place of birth as Whitechurch. Anne too is living in the poor house at this time after William's death. Could it be that they were receiving relief from the parish of Whitechurch. Do you know if there are any records which might confirm this? Benjamin gives place of birth in 1861 as Meline which of course borders the parish of Whitechurch. I will try and check out the marriages you suggest to see the witnesses. Thank you again for all your help Best Wishes Yvonne On Tue, Feb 2, 2010 at 4:32 AM, LC & BJ Kirkwood <lki59595@bigpond.net.au>wrote: > Dear Yvonne, > > I think we have discussed this previously.
