Hello, I'm a direct descendant of James James. i have information on his family tree but I also have a query. I've found info that he married in 1806 in Cardiganshire to Jane Thomas. However by that time he had around 5 small children christened at Little Newcastle Pembs. The mother then was also named Jane. Can anyone help and I would gladly give info of others on this tree. Yvonne Evans.

Thank you Ray Morris, Vera Lowe, Dai Jones, Geraint L. Jones, and Janice Edwards for your responses to my Welsh Male Choirs inquiry. I'm glad for the information from Geraint Jones as the choir he mentioned actually has a way for a foreigner like me to pay online. Many of the wonderful choirs are not set up to take my money. I look forward to your new cd coming out. Are the sold out cds going to become available again sometime? I have done google searches, and even listened to many samples on the internet, but the sound is not so full. Not necessarily the sound of the voices, but the sound of the recording often doesn't capture them well. Although the voices have been nice on the cds I've ordered, only one has captured that full sound and that was the Voices of the Valley cd. from 2006 Fron. Interestingly enough, their Encore cd I didn't enjoy as much. Thank you again for all of your input. Lea
Hello list, Can somebody find John Lewis, plummer in 1901 census at Swansea, possible 33 Bond Street. Children Llewellyn, Samuel, Esther and Rachel. Elwyn - Netherlands.
I know this is a little off the genealogy trail, but for me it relates to family history as my grandfather, my father, my brothers and my son all have beautiful "Welsh" voices. While we were in Wales this past spring we had one of the most amazing experiences. From the beach we heard the Tenby Male Choir practicing. It was breathtakingly beautiful. I've never heard anything more beautiful. I've tried to recreate the experience through CDs but with little luck. The Tenby choir actually sent me a complimentary CD but it was made several years ago and was not the same (possibly the quality of the recording itself?). Their new cd hasn't come out yet. The closest thing I have found to the sound we heard that night was a CD called "Voices of the Valley" 2006 from the Fron Male Choir. The first song was called "Sailing". Some of the songs we heard on the Tenby beach that night were: "When you Walk Through a Storm", "Danny Boy", "Shanendoah" (sp), "Take me home"? (from Les Miserable), "All Through the Night" etc. The sounds were deep and rich and beyond description. Does anyone know of any other Welsh Male Choir CDs that we might enjoy or that may be of that quality? Thank you, Lea
Thank you Dai I found from your good advice (and 3 trials) that it does work with house number and street name too which narrows down the search considerably. So I think I have found one of the families I was looking for but on the transcript the head of household is missing. I starts with 'wife'. I thought this census would be the easiest in that I know a lot about the people I am searching but it is more difficult to find them! Glen, If you know the name of the property where they were living then you can put that at the place. I have used this to find some of my THOMAS and GRIFFITHS family in Cardiganshire. Put in the surname, county, district and then property name as the place. I think it will recognise the street name as the place, too. If you want an example try GRIFFITHS and Cardiganshire, property Gwynfro. I agree that it is very difficult otherwise. Hello all I wondered if anyone has worked out the best way to search the 1911 census. I am searching for Jones and Williams surnames in Wales and finding it particularly difficult finding anyone even though I know the date of marriage, marital status age, sex, and roughly the place they should be. Any tips would be much appreciated. Glen Jenkins Swansea Wales

Hi Anne, Do you have them in the censuses? How much do you already know? You get 3 generations for the price of 1 in the 1891 census when Ebenezer's widower, father, Thomas is visiting the family at 25 Robinson St., Llanelly. Hello list, Am looking for the deathrecord of William Thomas, born 10-02-1868 at Pentrepoeth, Llanelli, son of Thomas Thomas. He married my Elisabeth Roberts near 1891, but soon after disappeared. Not sure about a definite divorce. I was told that William Thomas moved up to Pembroke Dock after 1919. He is not buried with his parents neither with his wife or ex-wife Elisabeth Roberts, who is buried with her parents at Adulam. Parents of William Thomas are also buried at Adulam. William Thomas had a son, called Willie, who moved to Pembroke Dock. Also found his grave, but no mentioning too of his father. William could be the one I found in 1936 ( 23-10). This person died at Public Institution. Elwyn - Netherlands.
Listers with railway ancestry may be interested in a new online picture library relating to the Great Western Railway from STEAM, the GWR museum at Swindon. You can find it at http://www.steampicturelibrary.com/dmcs_index.html and you can either search for a particular locality or just browse the different categories. Best regards Liz

I want to thank very much all of you who responded my query. It would appear that Crundale, PEM, does fit in after all with Crundale, KEN, and Crondall, HAM, and other locations where the term has been applied to early landscape features and/or quarrying operations. And, to top it all off, all the local inhabitants in each place still pronounce it 'crundl'! This does lead to additional questions: What was quarried in or near Crundale, PEM? Is it still being quarried? It seems unlikely that it's the Cretaceous chalk as in HAM and KEN. How about limestone? Again, many thanks. Herb Crandell Michigan, USA

Hallo there, Does anyone have any knowledge of the Institute of Genealogical and Heraldic Studies? A year or two ago they had a competition for the best family history for which there would be a prize of about £350 with second and third prizes of something - I forget what - and they would publish the winner. I did not enter, but I wonder what the mailing list subscribers know about the Institute. Did anyone enter? I thought about it but wasn't sure that even if I actually won, which I did not think I would have done, that I wanted it published. Vera
