Dear Susan and Tom Here are a few details you can see online. Mwnt Church http://home.clara.net/galw/mwnt.htm The church is usually open in the summer months - or was the last time I was there. If you are lucky you may be able to see Dolphins in the bay on a sunny day. The contact number would be via the Rev John Powell, Vicar of Cardigan Contact About: Services, Baptisms, Marriages, Funerals and any other matter concerning church life as well as pastoral matters. Address: The Vicarage, Maes y Dderwen, Gwbert Road, Cardigan. SA43 1PE E-Mail: parchjohnpowell@btinternet.com Phone: 01239 612722 Details of Summer Services http://www.churchinwales.org.uk/parishholding/david/d085-en/church-life-en/services-at-holy-cross-mwnt NB if you are used to the great highways of the USA be prepared for a cultural shock. The road down to Mwnt is very narrow. Aberporth http://www.stcynwyls.co.uk/ The page says the church is open as well. If the inscription is in the church I would have thought it would be easily found. Suggest you with the Rector. (I have Ellis's in my tree, from not far away, but haven't yet had time to research them - still got the Evans's to work through !) I will be able to spend two days in Wales while on a short vacation to the UK in September. My great grandfather, Capt. Dave Ellis was from the Aberporth area. He left around 1850 for America. Since my husband and son will be with me, I won't have time to do any research but I would love to be able to find some of the places I have already researched. My questions are: Does the Church of Wales, Mwnt Parish Church and the Church of Wales, Parish Church of Aberporth still exist? What are my chances of finding a Monumental Inscription in the Aberporth church if I already have a record of what it says? Do I need to contact anyone to get permission to see the churches? I have the name of the home where my ancestors lived - for at least 50 years. It was what at that time was the outskirts of Aberporth. The name of the dwelling was Bongam Bach. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out if this dwelling still exist or if not where it once was? Thank you very much. I am so excited to finally be able to see my ancestral home. Dear all I picked up this book in the local bookshop today: http://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=7613&ProductID=8049 159 pages of North Cardiganshire photos, covering: Aberystywth, Llanbadarn Fawr, Capel Bangor, Goginan, Ponterwyd, Ystumtuen, Nant-y-moch, Pontarfynach, Devils Bridge, Pont-rhyd-y-groes, Ysbty Ystwyth, Clarach, Borth, Ynyslas, Bow Street, Llandre, Tal-y-bont, Taliesin, Tre'r-ddol, Egwlsfach, Gandyfi, Penrhyncoch, Salem, Trefeurig. Book was originally published in 1992, so some of you might have seen it before. This is the 2009 print. I don't have any connection with the book ... I'm just someone who's interested in North Cardiganshire history, it being the place where half my ancestors once resided. This is just a heads up of sort, as some of you might be interested. Alison
Hello list, Who can help me with my search for Thomas Davies, born 1846, son of Howell and Sarah Davies. Born at Mountain Hall, Llangeler, the farm of his grandparents. In 1861 census Thomas was living with his parents at Abergwrog, Brongwyn, 15 years old. Not in 1871 census anymore with his parents. In 1875 mentioned as present at the death of his father. Found some old photo's of unknown relatives made in Aberdare and Mountain Ash. So think Thomas Davies had left Cardigan and possibly went to work as a collier. Hope somebody can find him in 1871 or 1881 census. Think he was married as there is a lady in the picture with him. Elwyn - Netherlands.

Hi all, The THOMAS family booklet prepared by Doris Irene CUMMING nee JEFFERIES is now available on my site from the genealogy pages (http://www.journeymouse.net/CMS/content/blogcategory/24/57/). Just click "THOMAS" on the left menu and you should be able to find it. For those of you have no idea what this covers, this was a genealogy prepared by a cousin that covers our descent from a William Frederick THOMAS of Pembrokeshire in the 1800s to 1979 / 1980 when it was prepared. This booklet forms the back-bone of my own research as I have worked on verifying, correcting and extending it. Regards, Jo Jo Thomas http://www.journeymouse.net/ Updated weekly
Thank you for the many suggestions concerning Welsh Male Choirs. I need to mention that with regard to the Tenby Male Choir, the songs I noted were but a few of those that I remember them singing. They sang several songs in WELSH, but not having a program with me, and not speaking Welsh myself, I didn't know the titles of those songs and so I didn't list them. Sorry. As one American (like most, not having come from a Welsh speaking family) and speaking only for myself, I like a combination of songs sung in Welsh and songs sung in English. I love to hear the old beautiful language of my Welsh ancestors, and I love being moved by the beautiful words as they sing inspirational songs in English. It's always strange for me to hear others say what Americans want or "don't want", as I think we're a rather diverse people. If the Tenby Choir came to the States we'd have the audience packed with my family, my husbands family, and our relatives and friends, with not a single angry soul in our group. Then we'd buy them out of CDs and go floating happily home to our stereos. It's not just the language that gives Welsh choirs their reputations, it's also their incredible voices. "No feeling when the song is sung in English"? You haven't heard the Tenby Welsh Male choir sing on the beach of Tenby, or the Fron male choir sing "Sailing". Never have I heard so many inspirational pieces within one hour. It was soul inspiring. The Tenby choir also sang Edelweis (sp) and a robust song in Welsh about Gymru or something similar and we enjoyed it immensely. Thank you again! Lea Sent: Monday, July 13, 2009 2:15 AM Subject: [Dyfed] Welsh Choirs I noted Ms Robertson's comment about the Tenby Male Voice Choir singing and she wanted a CD of it.? > > I'm sure they have beautiful voices, but what I'm curious about is, why weren't they singing Welsh-language songs? > I have heard many Welsh choirs come here to the USA and sing show tunes, Danny Boy, etc.? Great - they have wonderful voices - but the people in the audience get very angry - they want only Welsh-language songs.??? They want something from home not a show tune. > > I know that the choirs feel it is a mark of distinction that they can sing show tunes, Danny Boy, etc. - but that's not what the American people want.? By the way, many of them don't speak the Welsh language but they still want it sung in the "Language of Heaven."? There is a difference when a song is sung in Welsh and when its not.? There's no feeling when the song is sung in English.? I do not speak the language, although I sing it.? My father spoke and sang the language and I come from a Welsh-speaking Cardiganshire family. > > Annie
