Helo Beettye, I was so glad to see your reply. However unfortunately the marriages you informed me of (James and Oliver) do not appear to be the ones I am looking for. In Dinas Parish Records I have found christening of Mary Oliver 1795(my g.g. grandmother) whose parents in register were John and Mary Oliver. Regarding James, the wife of James James was a Jane There is a slight possibility she was Cardiganshire and I am pursuing this.i.e. Brongwyn Parish. For your info the Oliver surname has been in Dinas since 1660, but the surname disappears by approx 1830. The reason being the descendants were mostly daughters. I have written down the wills of both Vincent Oliver and Henry Oliver of Dinas. Vincent's Will was in 1780's and could be the father of Henry. but this is only slight possibility as he had two daughters, and no sign of a son.Henry was my g.g.g. grandfather. There was a younger Henry Oliver born approx 1800 and married Dinas 1828 but he disappears from the scene! He could have been brother to my g.g. grandmother. I am so grateful for your help Yvonne Evans ----- Original Message ----- From: LC & BJ Kirkwood To: a.y.evans@homecall.co.uk Cc: DYFED@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, July 23, 2009 1:11 AM Subject: Pemb. 1790's Dinas & Fishguard marriages - Oliver & James Dear Yvonne, Trying to prove family stories adds flavour to our researches, and there was interaction between this area and Ireland for a couple of hundred years earlier than the 1790's. There are no James James listed re Castlebythe marriages in the Cemais records, but as males usually married in their bride's parish, these may be of interest...particularly if the female names turn up in your lines. James James 1779 at Nevern married Dina Bevan James James 1792 at Fishguard married Elinor Griffith, John Oliver in 1769 married Margaret David at Dinas and John Oliver in 1790 at Llanllawer married Margaret Howell. Interestingly, an Oliver James married Catherine David at Dinas in 1730.......I have no reason to suspect the family may have been using patronymics, but if they were, then the Oliver family could have used Oliver 's first name as their family surname thereafter. It is probably just a coincidence. Will look in my records later to see if I can find anything else for you. Bettye Kirkwood, Australia.

Henry oliver's birth yr should b estimated at 1744 not 1734. Since he died age 90 in 1834. If he was born in 1734 then he would b 100. The St. David's Probate reference number is SD1836/47 and a copy of the abstract can be obtained for a small fee if you contact Pembrokeshire Records Office at Haverfordwest. You can order Will films from the Mormon Family History Centres, or a full copy of the Will can be obtained, using this reference number, from The National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth. > If his wife was still alive when he died or at least at the time he made his Will, you should be able to obtain her first name ......and gain confirmation of other family information. > Re details for the two James James marriages I sent previously.....I found that a James James of Fishguard left a Grant (ref. His children, in a Welsh village community, would be known by their first name, followed by "ap Oliver", and there are no earlier Oliver family members in the records...but not an uncommon occurrence if they came from elsewhere. > What I find so interesting is that Henry Oliver, of Dinas, in 1761 married Margaret Llewellin. I found a reference to his name on a Dinas Land Tax record for 1823 at Clinderwen, Dinas...and I found a record of his burial at Dinas on 26th. Sept. 1834 aged 90, which would give him an c. 1734 birth year. The only other Oliver in the burial records from 1813-37 is Esther Oliver of Dinas who was buried 15th. March, 1819 aged 84, i.e. born c. 1735. > I am wondering if she was perhaps a sister to Henry, or a second wife to Henry.....but with birth dates in the 1730's they would both fit nicely into being children of Oliver James. As I said before...probably just coincidental as there is a Will reference for an earlier Oliver James of Llanychllwydog, Husbandman, reference SD1689/150., > Henry Oliver left a Will, proved in 1825, but I don't have the reference number as Oliver is not a name I have researched, but the year would be enough information for Pemb. Hello, I wonder if anyone can assist me? I am looking for two different marriages for g.g.g. grandfathers in Pembrokeshire approx dates 1790's. I am unable to trace them after considserable searching in usual channels namely Parish Records and I.G.I. They were James James Castlebythe and John Oliver Dinas. Their respective children were christened in Little Newcastle and Dinas. As there are family stories that we have an Irish connection (Irish Pirates actually!) I wonder if one or two of these marriages could have occurred in Ireland. Was it usual for Pembrokeshsire men to marry Irish women and return with them to Pembs? I would have thought that their different religions would be a hindrance especially in Southern Ireland. I happen to know there was constant trading between Pembrokeshire and Ireland at this time Yvonne Evans
Hello list, Am looking for the deathrecord of William Thomas, born 10-02-1868 at Pentrepoeth, Llanelli, son of Thomas Thomas. He married my Elisabeth Roberts near 1891, but soon after disappeared. Not sure about a definite divorce. I was told that William Thomas moved up to Pembroke Dock after 1919. He is not buried with his parents neither with his wife or ex-wife Elisabeth Roberts, who is buried with her parents at Adulam. Parents of William Thomas are also buried at Adulam. William Thomas had a son, called Willie, who moved to Pembroke Dock. Also found his grave, but no mentioning too of his father. William could be the one I found in 1936 ( 23-10). This person died at Public Institution. Hi Vera The school at Bush, which is between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock, was Pembroke Grammar School until 1972/3 when the Coronation Secondary School and the Grammar School joined to form the present Comprehensive School at Bush. (I remember Mr Devereux at the Grammar School, I think he was Deputy Head). Prior to Bush, the Grammar School (County School?) was in Pembroke Dock, my mother attended the school there - if you have a look on the following link, it gives the history of the schools - http://www.thepenvro.com/History.html Hope this helps, Sandra --- On Wed, 22/7/09, Vera Lowe <v.lowe@btinternet.com> wrote: From: Vera Lowe <v.lowe@btinternet.com> Subject: [Dyfed] Pembroke Dock County School To: "Dyfed Mailing List" <dyfed@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, 22 July, 2009, 7:00 PM Does anyone know about this school, the predecessor of the present school. Since the list was so helpful, I thought I would try another question. I found an index to 'The Church and Village of Aberporth', issued under the auspices of the Parochial Church Council of St. Cynwyal's Church". It shows information on Bongam on page 18. Does anyone have access to the actual material and could tell me what it says? Bongam was the name of the home my ancestors lived in in Aberporth. I hope to be able to find it when I visit in September. Here is the link to what I found: <http://www.ceredigion.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=5940> http://www.ceredigion.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=5940 This is what the website says Over many years indexes have been compiled to improve access to the wealth of detailed information available in Ceredigion Local History books. Copies of these books are available for consultation at the Local History section of Aberystwyth Public Library. Diolch (hope I got that right) Thank you Susan

I wonder if anyone knows of this John MORGAN, born around 1781, or can suggest any way I can identify him, please. Census 1841: Aberystwyth, Llanbadarn Fawr CGN: John MORGANS age 60, hatter, & his wife Dyanhana age 55 Evan MORGANS age 25 draper Anne MORGANS age 20 - Anne died Q3 1844 & her baptism record confirms this much: Tabernacle C.M. Chapel, Aberystwyth CGN (RG4 3813) Anne b.25 Jan 1814, bap. dau.of John MORGANS & Diana nee DAVIES (mother's parish pre-marriage: Llanbadarn Trefeglwys?) This register did not cover the time Evan or Evan Hugh MORGAN was born. I have the details from John MORGAN's WILL: he died in Aberystwyth on 1 Feb 1850. Brief details from this WILL below: John MORGAN lists mortgage deed, bonds, promisary notes, 8 leasehold houses in Prospect Row, Market Street, North Parade and Moor Street, Aberystwyth. He occupied one of the houses and the rest were occupied by Richard WILLIAMS, Thomas LEWIS, Evan MORGAN, Job MORGAN, David WILLIAMS, Anne DAVIES & Richard GRIFFITHS. He had 10 shares in a gas light company. His estate went to his wife Diana and after her to his son Evan MORGAN [who used Evan Hugh MORGAN at PROBATE and on Census entries]. If Evan did not have children, however, the estate would go to John's brother and sisters. Unfortunately not named, so we have been unable to prove or disprove a connection to our MORGAN family. His son Evan Hugh MORGAN had married Susannah PUGH before c.1854 and they had 3 children, two died and one did have descendants. Anne
In a narrower vein, Ceiriog Gwynne Evans has just published a fascinating book entitled "Once upon a Time in Goginan". Apart from the history of the village, including the mines, he has a wealth of details of local characters and quite a few nice illustrations. A simple Google search of the title brings plenty of sources of supply.
