    2. Hi Elwyn, I also have a similar photo of my mother (3) and her brother (2)he as a collar/cape of lace, they were born 1908 & 1911 - would suggest my photo about 1913. Both parents of Welsh origin, so perhaps it was a tradition handed down. Do not have any earlier childhood pictures to compare, it would be interesting to find out more about the dress style. Have a good day............cj - aus Elwyn wrote: Dear list, Have a familyphoto of a baby with a collar and cape of lace. From what period could that be?

    3. Hello All, I have made this enquiry before, but have heard nothing further. How usual was it for inter marriages between Pembrokeshire men and Irish women around late eighteenth century? I have reason to believe there is an Irish connection in my tree(family story) I am looking for marriage of a John Oliver and Mary, John being of Dinas. Cannot find this in Pembrokeshire. Would there be a great difficulty in such an Irish/Welsh marriage because of religion etc? or would it not have mattered? The marriage would have taken place around 1794 Thank you very much Yvonne Evans

    3. I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the family of James LLEWELLYN b. <1803> Henllan Carms married to Francis WILLIAMS b. <1802> Llanboidy Carms. They moved to Narberth or Llandewi area and had the following children: Dan or David <1826>, Benjamin <1828>, Levi <1835>, William <1838>, Elinor or Ellen <1844>. James had a brother named John <1809> "Llanfaldog" Carms. James and Francis had a grandson named David Llewellyn <1857> "Nantyglo" I have found Francis without her husband in 1841. I have found them in 1851 through 1871 census in Glamorgan. I believe I have found Levi and family in 1871 and 1881. I believe Francis Llewellyn is the sister of my GGG grandmother Elizabeth WILLIAMS Carms. I'd love to find some type of marriage parish record for Francis and James, I'm guessing around 1823 to 1827. Thank you.

    1. Re: [Dyfed] [Bulk] DYFED Digest, Vol 4, Issue 242
    2. re Jones/Hole/Jenkins queries on this list. I was interested to see these as I have Susannah Jones married 1802 at St. Mary Battersea (to Philip Tirrell of Chelsea/Great Easton Leics. 53rd Regiment of Foot, Chelsea Pensioner). Susannah's birth/parents' details I have never been able to trace she was but definitely the daughter of Thomas Jones dob/place of birth not traced, recorded as Gent. of Haverfordwest, who wrote his will while living at Shut Street/Dew Street while staying with Jenkins relatives and his will proved 1829 (downloadable from National Archives & National Library of Wales) left money to his Jenkins relatives.. Susannah Tirell nee Jones died in South London 1838 and her will mentioning Long Annuity Bank of England from her father Thomas of Haverfordwest was also downloaded from the National Archives. The Jenkins family appear on various censuses at Shut Street/Dew Street Haverfordwest (also appearing in Parish Records, St.Mary Haverfordwest) and I think that the John Jenkins in Slade Lane Haverfordwest age 63 in 1881 St.Martin parish was the son of Mary and John Jenkins (carpenter/cabinet maker/proprietor of houses). On the 1841 census Dew Street John Jenkins Senior is recorded as being 53 and Mary, 60, with son/daughter John 22 and Mary 18 and an Elizabeth Lloyd shopkeeper age 74 who was also left a bequest in Thos. Jones will of 1828. I have a note of John Jenkins b/c 25 August 1818 at St.Mary Haverfordwest son of Mary and John Jenkins and they and their children John and Mary in Thomas Jones' will are recorded as niece/nephew, grand niece/nephew. I suspect in view of some other bequests in Thomas's will plus the fact that his daughter was married in Battersea that Thomas may have had a business and another address in London which I have never traced. In Thomas's will he mentions his son Hugh as deceased, Hugh's widow Ann and their two children also Hugh and Thomas, left £100 each, with no other clues so also untraced further by me. I have copies of the wills of a number of 19C Jones families living South and SouthWest London who may connect and mostly with Christian names Thomas or Mary. One particularly interesting is will of Ensign Thomas Walker Jones in 1836 thrown from his horse and killed and I traced a Bristol newspaper account of the accident. Thomas Jones Prison Governor at Haverfordwest is mentioned in a number of records but his dates seem slightly out of kilter. Such names are a nightmare to track! One of the Tirrell/Jones descendants, also a Susannah, married a James Hole in South London in 1833 and thought enough of the grandparent to name their son Thomas Jones Hole. Although Thomas Jones wrote his will at Shut Street "in knowledge of his certain death but no knowledge of the date!" on going through Haverfordwest Records office and records at NLW I have never yet found where he was buried. I have some further details of these family groups if any of the names ring anyone's bell! With thanks to all of those who help us in our researches. 3. Dear Graham Looking at the 1813-1837 marriages a Thomas Jones married a Martha Collins in St Martins, Haverfordwest on the 3rd May 1831. And Thomas Jones a Shipwright married a Martha Hague at St Martins, Haverfordwest on the 11th January 1834. The only other one I can see is Thomas Jones of Stackpole Elidor marrying Martha Rowe at Pembroke St Mary on the 13th December 1834. So as the latter was from Stackpole, another was a shipwright, possibly the most likely is Thomas marrying Martha Collins. Looking at the 1841 census I do see a Collins family living in Haverfordwest. Your Thomas Jones was living on St Thomas Green, Haverfordwest and in the nearby Shut Street lived 60 year old Mary Collins, with Ann aged 30, Thomas age 25 a Carpenter and 20 year old George a shoemaker. I hope the above may be of some help to you. Best Wishes Sylvia ................................................................. 3. >From a press release quoted another mailing list: "The National Archives, in collaboration with UK-based family history website Find My Past, is providing seven archives and libraries around England and Wales with free access to the recently completed online records of the 1911 census." "The service will be rolled out across the seven locations from the end of July ... We will publicise the launch date and the procedures for access which will apply on this website, as soon as these have been finalised." "The 1911 census will not be available at the seven locations for an indefinite period ... Each archive is being provided with an institutional account which works on a credit system. Based on the level of interest at The National Archives, where there is already free online access, the number of credits being given to each archive is expected, on average usage, to last for one year. However, if there is heavy usage of the new service . ... the free on-line access may not last that long." Apparently this will include the National Library at Aberystwyth: see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/stories/337.htm?WT.hp=nf-37818

    3. Hello Phillippa Have you seen all the entries in the Cambrian Index? There is an entry for the wife of Captain Dobbin at Milford in a September edition of 1839. I know someone sent you the entry for her husband William. I seem to remember someone quoting a William Dobbin and Elizabeth Sutton and looking at the death index I think there is an entry that may be a mis-spelling Elizabeth Dablin Sept qtr 1839 Haverfordwest 26/375. It might be worth getting the death certificate to see. There are several probable children mentioned in the Cambrian Index. Eliza Dobbin who married Richard Hoare Byers in 1822 William Dobbin who married Rhoda Summers in 1823 a Miss Dobbin who maried James Tyrrell in 1846 - this is Jane Dobbin. Susan Dobbin whi married Francis Thomas , recto of Haroldston West Interestingly Jane is shown as Jane Shaw Dobbin at her marriege and Jane Shaw Tyrrell at her death in 1874 so Shaw could be a significan name. Hope some of this is of use to you. They had to be short as one half of one side was for the address and the other half for the message, but I do have some postcards with incredibly small writing. Some people even wrote all over the picture side! Very few people had a telephone and even so, long distance calls took an age with calls being transferred from exchange to exchange by telephone operators and were (I imagine) rather more expensive than a halfpenny.
