    1. [Dyfed] Subject: Elizabeth Griffiths
    2. Joy
    3. Hi Bob I have found the family of James Griffiths and Jane ? in the 1841-1881 censuses. Jane gives age and place of birth as follows 1841 30 (rounded down) Pembrokeshire; 1851 41 Rhoscrowther; 8161 52 Pembroke (short for Pembrokeshire); 1871 55 Castlemartin and 1881 age 67 no place of birth given. By searching FreeBMD for two years either side of 1840 I have found the following marriages of a James Griffiths in Pembroke Registration District 1839 Mar Pembroke 26 729 Jane Walters 1841 Dec Pembroke 26 951 Jane Griffiths The census was taken on 6th June 1841 but the 1841 marriage still might be them . I think the first one more likely and it would be worth checking marriage registers for Rhoscrother, Castlemamrtin and Pembroke St. Michael for the period Jan-March 1839 to establish if it took place in any of them as that would establish that you have the righ t Jane. There is also for James Griffith the following 1841 Sep Pembroke 26 781 Jane Harris You could ask Pembroke Record Office to do these for you if no one on the list has any information. The last I heard their researchc fees were £12 an hour. Regards Joy

    2. Dick Coleman
    3. I've had a rather sturdy brick wall with this lady for some time, hoping someone may be able to help chip away at the masonry... Sophia CHARLES was born in Carmarthen - not sure if that's the town or Carmarthenshire. Family legend has it that she was the niece of Thomas Charles, a prominent Methodist from St Clears, Carmarthenshire, who settled in Bala, North Wales and founded the British & Foreign Bible Society at the beginning of the 19th century. She married John PATRICK of Lincoln on 26 Apr 1836 (just short of civil registration!) in Llanina, CGN, & they took over the Black Lion Inn in New Quay, which remained in the PATRICK family until the 1960s. Sophia was 'found dead' on 31 Oct 1853 at the Black Lion; an inquest was held in Dec but no further details have emerged. If anyone has any connections, or suggestions to reveal anything more of Sophia's life & antecedents, I'll be happy to hear from them. Regards Dick

    3. Hi Bob I looked back at your earlier e-mail where you said Elizabeth married George Shears in Swansea - although I think you meant to say 1875 not 1857!!! Anyway I found Jane in the census and then looked earlier for her with her family - found in Pembroke St Michael in 1851 and her parents were also there in 1841 with children Charlotte 2 and William 2 mths. The best fit for a marriage is James Griffiths to Jane Walters March qtr 1839 Pembroke 26/729 Cheers Pat In message <CD4E1D9E4F6A48A7BE5320BEBA96A5AB@RobertPC>, robertgascoigne <robertgascoigne@cox.net> writes >Hello List > > I am seeking the mother of Elizabeth Griffiths, Elizabeth is the daughter of >James Griffiths and Jane ?. I find that the IGI has a two patron submission's for the family that just gives Jane. The only IGI number given is for Jno (John) born 1847 who is in C081801. My question is ,are James and Jane in SKS 's tree, or does anyone have knowledge of them. Bob

    3. Dear Yvonne, Found the reference I mentioned.....Thomas James Junior was the nephew of Nicholas Morris, Yeoman of Crymuch., Llanfair Nantgwyn, Pembrokeshire. Nicholas Morris' Will written 1740 proved Oct. 1743. Thomas James was the steward of William Warren Esq. at Longridge, Castlebythe, and Thomas' uncle, Nicholas Morris left him property. Whether this has any connection to the William James you seek I don't know.......I have made a note that Nicholas is probably brother to Stephen Morris of Whitechurch-in-Cemais who died in 1725.
