Vera, it is lovely and photos are great but the stories are better. Hello HJ The same with Monmouth County Council's married typists, who were barred from working and had to resign after getting married. The council voted on overturning the ruling in 1955. This may have had more to do with the soldiers coming home from the war and the shortage of work for both sexes. Gareth --- On Tue, 28/2/12, H. When I offered to make my book available on the list I wasn't expecting to sell it! As long as it is only read by recipients I am happy. It was sold originally and the price was set by the Haverfordwest Civic Society but. I offered to make it available to read because there are obviously members who have/had relatives living in the period of which I wrote and maybe there is something that will particularly interest them. In case any listers have any interest I wrote a book for the Haverfordwest Civic Society which they published in 1993. It was called "My Haverfordwest Childhood 1918-1938". I have it on my computer. It can be made available, therefore, to listers. It written as from a child's point of view and, as I noted at the end, is to be read like that. There are pictures. Vera
Sorry that you can't all see the TT programmes, but do you know about this site? http://www.timeteamdigital.com/ Go to 'DIGS' and you can get a great flavour of what tomorrow/today's programme and all the other ones in the present series are about, in many few minute videos. Also see Tim Taylor, the director of the whole series of TT programmes. There is also the Facebook blog at: http://www.facebook.com/OfficialTimeTeam where you can see hundreds of photographs of previous series, and read many comments, including replies by TT as appropriate. Sorry it's only a compromise for you non-UK residents, but you will at least be able to enjoy bits of the Welsh 'copper' story. Diana

In response to the message below, I have found some Welsh "nonconformist" records digitized on Familysearch.org By early British standards the Methodist Chapels would certainly fit as nonconformist. Anna B Message: 1 Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2012 22:15:15 +0000 From: J Stratton <[email protected]> Subject: [Dyfed] Chapel records To: [email protected] Hi Can anyone tell me where I would find records of Calvinist methodist chapels in Cardiganshire? Many thanks. Bronwen
Hello Everyone, Thank you very much to you all for your kind offers of a look-up. Big thank you to Gerry Lewis and Pat Powell who were first off the mark and found me information on Llawhaden House. My John Lewis worked for the Skyrmes maybe late 1700's as well as early 1800's. Charlotte Skyrme actually left my great x 4 grandfather, John Lewis money in her will as she described him as a loyal servant. He was a gamekeeper on the 1841 census and when he died in 1844 he was described as a footman. Charlotte Skyrme was concerned about my John Lewis' failing eye-sight and she left him a sum of money to be paid annually for the duration of his life. How times change. He could well have just been suffering from an eye cataract! Thank you also to Simon Carter and Rachel Boyd for offering to do a look-up! Many thanks. Kind regards, Sarah.

Hi, Just wondered if anyone on the list had the book, 'Historic Houses of Pembrokeshire' by Francis Jones? If so, I wonder if they could contact me directly as I have a small look up / favour to ask? Thank you. Kind regards, Sarah in Northumberland.
