    3. Thanks Dai Yes, it's the right Jon. I'm pleased to report that Roger's suggestion found Jon for me, the St Albans History address is valid for him and we've now been in contact. I was trying to facilitate a request from the Welsh Coal Mines site guys to use some material on Jon's Pembrokeshire Mining Deaths article we have on Genuki. 3. I haven't been in touch with him for several years either. He was extremely helpful to me with my Begelly relative hunt, and I was able to meet him and his father at a Badham family reunion in Stepaside years ago.. my goodness how time flies. 1. [Dyfed] Announcement
    2. Dai Bevan
    3. Listers, As promised, you will shortly receive an invitation to join our new list - WLS-Dyfed@groups.io. One or two have already found the new list by browsing, if you have dones so then obviously just delete any invitation. The minimum you will have to do is to reply to that message (no need to add any text). The new home page is : https://groups.io/g/Wls-Dyfed This page gives email addresses: * Post: WLS-Dyfed@groups.io <mailto:WLS-Dyfed@groups.io> * Subscribe: WLS-Dyfed+subscribe@groups.io <mailto:WLS-Dyfed+subscribe@groups.io> * Unsubscribe: WLS-Dyfed+unsubscribe@groups.io <mailto:WLS-Dyfed+unsubscribe@groups.io> * Group Owner: WLS-Dyfed+owner@groups.io <mailto:WLS-Dyfed+owner@groups.io> * Help: WLS-Dyfed+help@groups.io <mailto:WLS-Dyfed+help@groups.io> It also gives some of the list settings: Group Settings * All subscribers can post to the group. * Posts to this group do not routinely require approval from the moderators. * The first Post from new users require approval from the moderators. (an anti-spam measure) * Messages are set to reply to group. * Subscriptions to this group do not require approval from the moderators. * Archives are visible to anyone. * Wiki is visible to subscribers only. * Members can edit their messages. * Members can set their subscriptions to no email. Some facilities are only available if you create a log-on, most noticable The Wiki. This is where subscribers can store useful information for the community - e.g. we could add links tomembers web pages, or create a list of members research interests. I have alreay started a page of useful links (currently Genuki for the3 counties and Dyfed FHS.) Postings can now also include attachments - photos, documents etc. Photos will be downsized to approximatley screen size to reduce storage - which is limited to just 1GB on the free system. When this limit is reached oldest images and documents will be automatically deleted to accomodate any new postings. Thi means images will not be kept in the archives indefinitely. The archives are arranged by subject of postings (similar to the Thread on Rootsweb) , so it is important when replying to a posting not to change the subject. Also it is important that the subject is meaningful. And while we are at it, lets try to start any that are specific to one county with the county chapman code. We have long asked that we preface the subject with PEM-; CGN-; or CMN- if they are specific to that county. Normal rules of posting apply - be polite, tret others with respect and no flaming etc. Dai

    3. I’m very grateful to lots of people who have helped me over the years on both the Dyfed and Pembrokeshire lists. They’ve quietened down a lot from when I first joined, it’s such a shame things are coming to an end. I realise it’s not quite the same and hope it’s ok to post this, but for those who may be interested, I have set up a ‘closed’ group on Facebook called Pembrokeshire Family History/ Genealogy. If you’re on Facebook just search for the group. There are currently 428 members from all over the world. Everyone is welcome to join. Best wishes to all, Sandra Davies, South Pembrokeshire On Wed, 8 Jan 2020 at 07:40, Dai/Angela Bevan <daibevan@clara.co.uk> wrote: > A Happy New Year to all. but this announcement is not such good news. > Rootsweb will drop all list from March, this list will be one of the > many that disappear. 3. That is good news I think Dai. Several other groups I belong to have moved to .io, and were able to transfer files from the old Yahoo. I was not involved in this work, but from what I have heard they had good help from yahoo techies. I thought the deadline passed, but maybe they have extended it due to demand. Rachel BoydSouthside VA USA  Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Sat, Jan 11, 2020 at 2:38 AM, Dai/Angela Bevan<daibevan@clara.co.uk> wrote: Listers, Please be patient.
