    3. Good Morning... This message came from Deep South and I thought I would pass it on to the group. I have been to Kings Mountain, toured the area, and watched the presentations; and, enjoyed it... I have not been to Cowpens; but, would love to attend. The website is very informative, up-to-date; and, I think you will enjoy it!!!! Cousin... kaite.. ================= Subj: 218th anniv of Cowpens Battle Date: 1/2/99 10:00:57 AM EST From: jr@SHELBY.NET (John Robertson) Sender: DEEP-SOUTH-ROOTS-L@LISTSERV.INDIANA.EDU (A discussion list for genealogy in AL, GA, FL and MS) Reply-to: jr@SHELBY.NET (John Robertson) To: DEEP-SOUTH-ROOTS-L@LISTSERV.INDIANA.EDU We are just 2 weeks away from the observance of the Battle at Cowpens to be held at the Cowpen National Battlefield. The Cowpens NB is on SC Hwy 11 off of I-85, 11 mi. n.w. of Gaffney SC. There is a 2-day program on 16-17 January 1998. A detailed listing of the program may be found at http://www.shelby.net/jr/kmnmp/cp.htm by clicking on "events schedule". This schedule was provided by Chief Ranger Pat Ruff, and the is the only such online to my knowledge. This year's observance will be of special interest due to the recent (11-98) release of Dr. Lawrence Babit's full-length and detailed analysis of the battle in his "Devil of a Whipping". One or more reviews of the book can also be found on the above website (click on "book reviews"). Dr. Babits will be present and will speak at 3 p.m. on Saturday 16 January, followed by a book-signing. On Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., a forum is scheduled in which Dr. Babits will participate. Local scholars of the Amer.Rev., including Dr. Bobby G. Moss, will also be involved. Dr. Babits' new book gives expression of and evidence for some significantly different conclusions regarding the battle, and in particular, the number of participants. I believe that his book will be standard from this point forward. If you are within reasonable driving distance and you are a Rev War buff, you should plan to be there. John Robertson
